I don't blame people for thier recent lack of enthusiasm. I have felt it too. Book 5 was a traumatic experience from which I have not fully recovered

Of course Ginny isn't dating Harry - she's dating Dean Thomas! /proudly hoists Artist's Flame banner.
I love that Ginny's real name is Ginevra. Leonardo da'Vinci painted a woman named Ginevra da'Benci, who had reddish hair. The painting is entitled, "Virtue Guards Beauty" or something to that effect. Incidentally, da'Vinci also painted a woman holding an ermine (a white ferret to some of us), which I saw when it was on display at the Museum of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. I swear all I could think of was what is she doing with Draco Malfoy? Thus does fandom fry the brain.
Perhaps Ginny has some Italian ancestry going way back?
The poem: Fred and George could well have written it - it sounds like something they would do. Or maybe Draco wrote it, thinking it would be funny to embarrass both Harry and Ginny. Another possibility is that Luna Lovegood wrote the poem. It's certainly quirky enough in rhyme and metaphor to be a Luna work. Or, finally, Ginny did indeed write the poem and it's a send-up of bad and angsty preteen

But I think it was inevitable (if sad and frustrating) for some people to be disappointed and/or disillusioned with it. The long wait for the book and the fanfic that rushed in to fill the vacuum meant that people had ridiculously high expectations for OOtP, as well as firm agendas
I've always thought the same thing myself - that people had really high expectations, especially because there was just so much discussion and speculation about it beforehand. And as amazing as the book was, it can be hard to not be disappointed once you've got something in mind. Personally, though, I didn't really know what to expect and was thoroughly happy with the book. Except the whole Sirius dying thing...but I also think it was a good move on JKR's part, because it really fuels the story.
and I loved Ginny in OoTP. I've been leaning towards not liking her so much lately in fandom (...I'm not sure why), but I think this might just help turn that around, which is good, because in the books, I really do enjoy her character.
HP took a back seat to random anime and episodic television. Rarely were there passionate posts about HP characters and even less frequently were there wild speculations about the actions of the next book.
I think part of that is because a lot of fans have discussed the HP universe to death. The first couple of months after OotP was released, practically everybody had a review of OotP in their journal, and canon discussions abounded. What I think is going on right now is that most fans are feeling a little drained (you can only discuss a character(s) for so long before you run out of things to say), and so are turning to other fandoms temporarily to give themselves a little bit of a breather before returning. Well, I know I certainly feel that way

What happened with Star Wars. Ah. Painful to talk about. It was something called a Kprequel" and it made every original trilogy fan I know cry and cry. Also, Han Solo Shot first. That is I have to say.
