Short Nature Post

Today ended up being nicer than I expected it to be... the sun came out even though the wind was chilly... so I stopped on the way home to take a walk on the other trail (the one that isn't by the lake). This is the trail along the creek where I always find all the red trilliums, and I figured it was much too early for them yet, but I might at ( Read more... )

Garlic mustard is common here and grows like a weed in this garden though it is native and presumably not as damaging to its surroundings. I usually get rid of it because it's nearly always in the way! I'd be even more upset with it if I knew it was wreacking havoc. :/

It's native to Europe so your plants are adapted to it. Ours here aren't used to it and the insects here haven't adapted to eat it.

Many thanks for the post!
All these plants don´t grow here and they are fascinatig, especially the "umbrellas" of May apples:-).
I can see there is a constant fight for survival everywhere but your plants are extremely active and good fighters.

May apples are one of my favorites, and unlike the others, it will stay all through the summer, so it is always such a welcome sight in the spring... it's still very cold at night here but the things that have adapted to survive it don't let it stop them.

fascinating as always, and I learn things too - which is a bright spot in my days - didn't know what the garlic mustard plants were, but I see them all over.

It's an invasive pain in the ass but it is good at growing all over the place!

Oo, pretty trout lily! I've never seen such a thing as a May Apple. They look like something from Dr. Seuss. :D

I love May apples. There a personal favorite of mine and I take lots of pictures of them. They are so odd with their one big umbrella leaf... they do look like something from Dr. Seuss! If they were purple they'd be right out of one of his books!
