Research - mostly done with young learners and classrooms in mind but good for extrapolation to all sorts of situations - shows that taking time out to relax increases efficiency. Your subconscious will probably be buzzing away processing your classwork while your conscious mind is admiring fungi and ospreys. The time out needs to be soothing and obviously has to be limited or you won't get anything done, but I agree with Counsellor Guy that walks are important - and of course that's good news for the rest of us who join you!
