Pictures of the Outside World...

Fall isn't quite here yet, even with the colder nights... the trees are holding onto summer as long as they possibly can. I don't know why I'm so hungry for the colors and sounds of fall this year, because fall means winter and winter's lockdown on the Great Lakes is relentless and harsh, but I am desperately craving the flares of orange and red ( Read more... )

I've been watching that tree for a while just because it's interesting to chronicle the damage that they do to one particular tree over time... although maybe not everyone finds such things as worthy of documenting as I do...

I saw a tree like that on one of my walks. Every other tree around it was untouched, but this one specific tree was full of holes.

It means that there's some kind of insect living in the tree that woodpeckers are desperate to get at... sometimes it's a colony of ants, but I don't think it is here. Often it's a bunch of beetle grubs making tunnels in the wood.

Very pretty! I love the pictures, I wish the lake by my house was more secluded like yours, it looks so peaceful there. :)

It is very peaceful. The trade-off is that we are half an hour from the nearest place to buy groceries.

I almost missed your nature post!
Now I am here. Autumn lake is beautiful it the sunshine.
I like the coloured leaves, little asters and ferns. Trees - these are always magnificent, alive or dead.

:-) Nothing exciting here either. Trees are still mostly green, the true South-Bohemian autumn is still to come. I am not in a hurry, I like this relatively mild weather. Yesterday it was even sunny...mmmmmm!!!!
And - no mushrooms after that drought, at least not where I usually go.
But I know that you will have gorgeous photos soon. I look forward to your post!
