Personal Opinion here: Whichever Disney exec decided how Bridge to Tarabithia was going to be marketed deserves to be drug out into the street and shot. Repeatedly. Dude, long time no post.

And that makes me really not want to see it. I've read the book, didn't like it all that much, but the trailers looked good....

Wait, so... the movie actually was more-or-less true to the book?? "good, really good, if terribly depressing" sounds like a summary of the book. o_o

And here I was being all preemptively disgusted with the movie because, based on the trailer and some reviews, it seemed like they'd focused overmuch on the fantasy end of it.

I'm not sure, I've never read the book. ^^; But yes. Mostly drama and trauma, little fantasy. @_@

Sounds JUST like the book, then. Anybody of a certain age group in our area is all traumatized by having read that book early in elementary school. But it's near and dear to our hearts... so your review is actually reassuring compared to what I was being preemptively irate about.

It's funny though that we both were expecting (and maybe wanting?) opposite things from the movie!
