I went and saw HBP last night with the Azkatraz crew.
Things I loved:
1. All the added funny bits, the sexual innuendo, the goofiness (Cormac's tongue! Dragon balls!).
2. Draco's dark mark. I'm glad they showed it, because I was always sure he had it.
3. Tom Felton overall was great. You can see the deterioration as time passes. Bit too much red makeup in the last scene there. He didn't have that much when he left the Room of Requirement or came up the states, but then on the close-up...
4. Hermione fuming and her hair going into a crazy frizzball when Harry made the potion better than her. Classic Hermione.
5. Lavender. Awesome actress.
6. Luna was fabulous as always.
7. Hermione beating up on Harry.
8. Ron under the love potion. Brilliant acting.
Things I was 'meh' about:
1. The burning of the Burrow. I didn't really understand why they decided to do this, but okay...
2. Tom. He was pretty creepy, but looked really young in the scenes with Slughorn (wasn't that supposed to be his seventh year?). I think it would have been better to use the same actor from CoS, if only for continuity.
3. No Bill/Fleur. Are they omitting the wedding from the next one???
4. Draco saying 'father' instead 'dad' when he stomps Harry's nose. In the book, Draco saying 'dad' was a good bit of characterization, showing that he was breaking form under emotion, but the movie version seemed to work as well.
5. In the hospital, Hermione says "friend" instead of "best friend"? I think they were going for some awkwardness, but it just didn't work for me.
Things I Did Not Like:
1. Omitting Draco's 'crucio'. This is like Han Shot First, it's important to the characterization of Harry. Harry crosses the line when pushed, but he doesn't start out with a deadly curse (remember what Lupin tells him about his Expelliarmus?)
2. Having the Death Eaters go to all that trouble to get into Hogwarts, and then just turn around and leave. It didn't make sense to me that they wouldn't do more than break a few plates. Yeah, I know they have time constraints, but they didn't need to spend all that time on the Battle of the Burrow either. Also, it's strange that people who are going to play a major role in the book 7 battles like Neville and Luna weren't seen fighting in this one.
3. WTF with Narcissa's hair? Not attractive at all. She's a beauty queen, people!
4. Leaving out Albus's funeral, and the scene with Slughorn. The three of them in the tower was fine, but I would have preferred they show the funeral. And "Dumbledore's man" was one of the best scenes from the book. Then again, they royally fucked up the line on Harry's hand, so I guess this would have been messed up too.
We didn't get to bed until 4:30 in the morning, and then sleep in until 11:30.
