I have had this discussion on numerous occasions. Societies that ban books do so because they are afraid of what will happen if people have access to information (e.g., Third Reich). They don't want *anyone* to have access to materials that will make them *think,* or that will cause them to question the status quo. And that's to say nothing of the slippery slope that comes from banning things ... what freedom goes away next? How soon are only certain people (usually male) the only ones allowed to know how to read at all?

You see my point. While parents have every right to determine what their minor children read, they do *not* have the right to decide that for someone else's child or for some other adult.
