I another couple of friends who go back and forth about selling their house and move back to seattle (rent). Their situation is now that he is not happy and never has been happy living where they bought their house (Kent). He wants to go back to school. Is tired of the jpbs he is taking because they have to make their morgage and wants to be closer to the city and friends again. I don't think it is irresponsible, I think that maybe the pressure to buy a house and the apparent status it gives people is overrated ( ... )

I wholehartedly support your decision...our 3 year ARM would have begun adjusting with our November payment, and now we've secured a rental in a home we could never afford. I'm paying off all our debt with the sale proceeds. During the duration of my ownership, my partner and I got a chance to learn financial responsibilities that will hopefully help us be responsible renters even though our rent payment is about equivalent to what our mortgage and second would have been. The girls can't wait to share a room...

I'm for it! I don't even think it's necessarily a bad financial move. What neighborhood do you like?

We have struggled with the idea that you just DON'T sell your house and go back to renting.

Hey that's what we just did :)
I like the lack of yard work. I like the fact that we have more community here in the apartment than we did in the house (go figure). I like the fact that we're not responsible for maintainance.
Yes, we have less space but I'm hoping it will just cause us to streamline more :)
I think if you're unhappy where you are then moving is a good idea. It's not like homeownership is the only way to have good credit either. Plus, although most folks don't mention it, debt reduction is as good as savings when it come to fiscal responsibility.
