100 Years of Solitude

A few years ago I was in a class, a class that was so moving that I don't remember the subject any longer. I would like to say it was Modern Literature, but that does not seems right, all I know is that the professor assigned all books that were originally written in different languages or, by authors who lived outside of the United States. I write posts about books too! We must both be nerds. Yeah, I am pretty nerdy.
Maybe you can remotely join the IBC and recommend that book to us, and we will all hate you and curse you until we get deep enough into it to grasp its brilliance.
Remember how much I HATED Madame Bovary in the beginning? When I got about 2/3 the way through I liked what I was reading, which is lucky for me and the book...otherwise I would put it off for a MAYBE second attempt a few years down the line. I'll probably be dorkily referencing that book for a long time.
Oh, I don't know if I told you this or not, but you HAVE to check out Julia Alvarez. A modern author, fast read, she's just so great. I've read two of her books so far and I started reading Yo! but got so wrapped up in it, when I finally stopped I was like, you need to BRING THIS BACK TO THE LIBRARY and read it when you actually have time to be consumed by a book.
