Anyone know if declawing cats is illegal in california? I want Daminja declawed. If it is illegal I will go to Mexico or Nevada to do it. I don't care. I just got FUCKED up by her while trying to trim those things. I want her spayed too . Anything horrible that you can do to an animal I want done to her. I've never wanted to punch an animal as ( Read more... )

Most places prefer not to declaw cats. It's an extremely traumatic experience for any cat. By getting a cat declawed you risk permanently altering your cat's life and the way she interacts with you. Plus there is a risk of the cat never using a regular litter box again. Why don't you see if capping her claws help first. It's a really cheap alternative. The caps are glued onto the nails and if you get them done properly done the first time you only have to deal with them every couple months or so.

I second all of the above. Please don't declaw your cat, KC. She might have pissed you off but that is not the way to solve the problem. If there are deeply-set behavioral problems could you just bring her to a good shelter instead of harming her or kicking her out of the house? Hurting her will not teach her anything, and if you are that angry with her it is probably best to give her a real chance somewhere else rather than severely traumatizing her with the declawing or abandoning her. As mentioned above, capping the claws (the product is called SoftPaws) is a great option. But hell, if you just don't want your cat anymore, let me take her to a good shelter I know of. (my number is 714-263-6198 - call me if you're really going to get rid of her) I'd hate to see a kitty get hurt when it doesn't even know what it did wrong. :\

I want Daminja. I just want her to calm the fuck down. I get bit ALL the time and I feel like am always bleeding. I can't spray her with water because she likes water. I have to get her spayed so hopefully she will calm down from that.
Last night I went on all the declawing websites I could and checked everything out. I'm still thinking its a good idea.

Caps only work for calm cats and Daminja is not

It's time to get rid of Daminja, KC. You're not home often enough to give her the attention she needs, which is one of the reasons she's so hyper like that. She is still a kitten. Kittens are like human children. Please call Katrina and let her help you take care of it ( ... )

Aww Becky, you know I was kidding. I'm not going to kill Daminja. I could return Daminja to the Boatmans whenever I want to, but I like her a lil bit :)
She is a sweet cat most of the time, but the biting and scratching has got to stop. I'm getting scars and so is my mom. I was told that this phase would end along time ago and I think its time to try something else.
I've tried those damn Soft paws things that Trina and Mysti mentioned and they dont work. she chews them off. Its a crappy product and it looks dumb as hell.
I don't belive that declawing a cat will change it's personality. I know alot of declawed cats and they are fine. She will always be a housecat so I dont think it will be an issue of her having any back problems or being able to protect herself.

I dunno. I'll look into it more.

I agree with Becky - getting them declawed is no more cruel than having them fixed. You should get both done. I've had and known many happy cats that don't have front claws. She seems to have a bit of an extra skittish personality, spaying might help with that. Best of luck to you!

Is she violent all the time? If she is, it's possible that she could have a chemical imbalance/thyroid problem (I can't remember what it's called). I had a cat a few years ago that gradually became more and more violent. He also was eating less and getting thinner over time as well. We took him to the vet and it turned out that he had some sort of hormonal imbalance that was causing all that. It is treatable with medication, however we had to put him down because it was becoming more difficult to give him the medicine, and he was getting more violent (he actually jumped on my mom multiple times and severely clawed her).

She's violent but not ALL the time. When she is sleeping she's fine :)
She bites at my hands when I just move them around her or try to pet her for longer than 5 seconds. The scratching is weird because it usually her trying to climb my body and digs her claws in my stomach.

I'm taking her to a really good vet I know this week and I'm gonna have her checked out.
