So I thought it was about time I bitched about the Daily Show. The brief way of putting this is that I don't like it. The reason this matters is that I was really prepared to love it and think it is hilarious. But it is not. Bugger. Guys and Girls, I urge you to download episodes of Have I Got News For You because that is how satire should be done ( Read more... )

I'd mostly agree with you about the Daily Show, but I must say that the following clip, in my opinion, the best piece of satire I've seen this year:

I loved that clip :)

As someone who is neither American or British but has spent a good while in both parts of the world, I can tell you there is a huge difference between people's everyday use of sarcasm/irony/satire. To be American humor, the Daily Show is (in my opinion) quite good, and I love to watch it, but shows such as Have I Got News for You indeed have this extra tingle of irony to it. It's all about what you're in the mood for really *smiles*

Also, don't even get me started on the French and their grasp of humor... *laughs*

Satire wise, I can't really comment on the Daily Show, but I am fond of Jon Stewart. First (and most shallowly) I think he's hot, but I particularly like watching him do interviews. The man's intelligent, and it becomes obvious when he's doing more than just sitting at the desk, and I always find intelligence a turn on.

It's okay that you don't like Jon, really...really, it's okay. *cries*

Kidding.

I'll show you a great Jon moment where he's not just letting the audience laugh at a clip, mmmkay? It'll be in my journal in a few minutes.

*huggles Jon* I still wuv you.

You're my new hero. 'Cause I fucking HATE The Daily Show. I heard so much hype about it and then when I sat and watched an episode, I didn't laugh once. Ehhhh.

Exactly! I don't think it's even the hype that killed in because it's just unfunny. I guess we have superior different humour to Americans :p

I can't say I've really watched The Daily Show... I always thought it looked pretty funny as it goes, but for an American show I mean - it usually never holds a candle to British humour... The only US comedy I've ever found genuinely hilarious is Frasier, and it's about the only one I can think of... It's very well written, and the jokes are actually clever ^_~ I think that awful US sitcoms are what put me off any other of their humour (though I was absolutely AMAZED at how funny I found Whose Line to be - when I first started watching it, I never expected it to be so damn good! *grins*) I can't bloody stand Friends, or Will & Grace, or Everybody Loves friggin' Raymond... Well, I don't love him! See me... I'm getting angry with myself now *laughs*

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are awfully cute though ^_^

I've never liked Friends, W&G e.t.c either, but have you ever seen Arrested Development? It's a work of utter genius.
