Summary: When Henry spots someone playing on an old piano randomly in a park, he becomes slightly obsessed...
Genre: Fluff, romance.
Notes: I was kinda depressed one night and didn’t know what to do. Started to play Smule, the Magic Piano on my ipod touch and totally got inspired to write this fic.
“What’s this piano doing here?” Henry asked his friend Siwon one day as they were walking through the park.
“Don’t know; it does seem rather random doesn’t it?” Siwon stepped over to the piano after shrugging his backpack back onto his shoulder and hit a few keys.
“It sounds in tune,” said Henry as he moved over to play a little quick tune on it before laughing; “Weird huh?”
“Very.” Siwon put his arm around Henry’s shoulders and lead him away after that, but the idea of the random piano in the park was something that couldn’t escape the musical Henry.
Every day he would walk past that piano, still finding it perfectly in tune but with no one playing it. He almost thought to question some authority about it, but who do you really ask about a piano in the park? So he had no choice but to let it be.
Several weeks passed and the piano never moved. Henry started to grow oddly attached to it; seeing it in the morning was like his special treat. ‘Will it still be there!?’ He would often wonder to himself as he made his way towards campus.
The big treat would come after school one day. His violin practice was canceled so he was able to walk home any way he wanted without stops, which was different from normal since he usually went with Siwon to Donghae and Hyukjae’s after school job to try and smuggle away free food. Today was different though; today he could do what he wanted and he wanted to go visit his the piano.
As he approached the park however he heard music; it was some of the sadest music he had ever heard and even before the piano was in sight he could feel tears in his eyes and Henry Lau was not a person to cry. Who could be playing such sad music so beautifully and perfectly on the piano so as to arouse such emotion in him!?
Henry moved closer and possibly saw the most gorgeous creature he had ever seen in his life. The sun was shining through the autumn leaves and illuminated the boy’s brown hair so that it looked almost like gold. His hands were small and frail but strong enough to stroke the keys with fierce emotion. He didn’t look at any sheet music and just played from the heart. In his eyes sparkled tears that refuse fall, just hang there off of his eyelashes like dew drops in the morning.
It was too much for Henry to take; he took out his phone and began to record the performance. Not just the one song either. That man played several more and Henry recorded them all until his cell phone was dead. Then he just sat and watched completely mesmerized by the beautiful, small man.
When Henry got home he uploaded all of the videos into his computer. He needed to know what those songs were; for as long as he had been in music he had never heard such sad and depressed, let alone moving music. More than once as he watched he had been moved to tears.
But his search went unanswered. These songs… they were all originals. The beautiful man whose hair shined like gold, he had written all of these songs. And Henry hadn’t even got his name.
“Damnit!” He cursed, staring at the screen as another video of him played. The sound quality wasn’t great but Henry could make out what notes were being played… At first he just hummed along, but soon he had pulled out his own keyboard that was hooked up to a separate laptop and began to play along. The laptop took the notes he played and translated it into sheet music.
Each song was slowly worked on, trying to get it into sheet music but sadly at some point he had passed out. It was hard too because Henry just couldn’t get the same sound on his keyboard that That Man had achieved on the old piano in the park. To say Henry was jealous, musically, was a bit of an understatement.
The next day at school, Henry couldn’t stop humming the music. He’d fallen asleep working on it and woke up to do the same thing. He was almost late for classes because of it.
“What’s up with you?” Siwon asked as they were walking through the halls. “You look totally zonked.”
“I am. I was up all night.”
“With that flash drive from Hyukjae again?” Siwon made a face as he questioned him but Henry just blushed and shoved the taller man.
“What!? No! I was working on music!” Siwon laughed, but Henry was pouting. “You remember that old piano in the park?” The question answered with a nod. “Well someone was finally playing on it. The music he made… It was so amazing-here, listen!”
Henry produced his phone in that second and pulled up one of the videos so that Siwon could listen.
“Wow.” Siwon said eyebrows up to his bangs. “That is really good.”
“See? It’s an original piece too… I checked. I’ve been trying to make it sheet music, but I can’t play it the same way as him…”
“You sound smitten.” Siwon teased, only a tiny bit jealous.
“No! …” There was a paused and Henry thought about it, “Okay maybe just a bit-but just with his music! I was in tears, Siwon, TEARS!!” Henry was so impassioned as he spoke that Siwon just had to laugh.
“I believe you.” He said, patting his shoulders. “Maybe you should try looking him up on Google or something.” Siwon lead them to their first classes as he said that.
Which was… such a good idea. Why hadn’t he thought of that last night? Probably because Henry was too wrapped up in the music. Once lunchtime rolled around Henry had his cellphone out and was attempting to find the musician on the web but the only thing he could find were more video clips of him on YouTube.
“Whatcha doing?” Donghae asked, plopping down next to Henry at their usual table.
“Trying to find someone.”
“Internet girlfriend?” Donghae asked, looking at the cell phone.
“What!? No! He’s a pianist! And an amazing one.”
“Oh….. So boyfriend?” His eyebrows waggled suggestively as he questioned this time around, always knowing Henry had to be one of them.
“DONGHAE!”
“What?” Donghae asked innocently. “It’s a fair question.” A fry from his lunch was munched on. “…Well?”
“No, not boyfriend. I don’t even know his name; I just know that he’s … an amazing composer.”
“You sound smitten,” replied Donghae as he took another bite of his food.
“That’s what Siwon said.”
“If he said it then it must be true.” Teased Donghae while poking Henry’s soft cheek with his French fry.
“Oh shut up.” Henry said, turning his head to munch the fry.
Immediately after school Henry ran back to the park but it was empty except for the piano. He sat down on a bench by the piano and just stared at it for a good ten minutes before finally giving up and going home. There he tried to look for the man some more on the internet but everyone else had the same questions as he did: WHO IS HE.
What Henry DID find out, however, was what his apparent schedule was. There were certain days that he played most commonly: Tuesdays and Thursdays and random Fridays. That meant that he would be there tomorrow; Henry would be prepared this time with a real camera so he could get an even better video than before.
Purposefully skipping his violin practice, Henry ran to the park after class with a trailing Siwon behind him. Just like the other day before even reaching the piano, Henry could hear the music. His footsteps stalled and Siwon almost ran into him.
“He’s here again.” He said, clutching a fist over his chest before digging in his backpack for his camera. “The songs are different this time.”
“They’re so… sad.” Siwon said, panting just a bit because they had ran from campus.
“I know…” Henry took a few steps closer, opening up his camera. He even had brought an extra battery with him.
“You’re not going to get a very good picture from back here Henry; move closer.” Siwon laughed, trying to push him forward.
“What? No! What if he sees me?!” Henry panicked and tried to resist the pushing.
“Aren’t there other people around watching him and recording him?” Siwon teased gently, pushing more.
“But but!”
“No, come on. Let’s move closer.” Siwon forced Henry to get up within 10 feet of the piano; Henry’s face was so red as he blatantly recorded the man who was even more beautiful upon closer inspection.
Even though it was a cloudy day, the few random rays of sunshine always came through perfectly to hit his face, highlighting every wonderful feature on them. Just like last time he had tears that just sparkled and seeing them brought Henry’s own tears to his eyes.
Seeing how Henry had his eyes glued onto the man, Siwon got a bit jealous once again. Not that he liked Henry; he was just possessive of his friends. At least that’s what he had convinced himself of.
Since he had the extra battery, Henry was able to stay until the end of the mini concert and applauded with vigor, sniffling back his tears. The man looked surprised to hear the applause and stared before flashing a nervous smile.
“Ex-excuse me…” he muttered; his voice was just as beautiful as the music he played. But then he was… Running away!?
“What the heck?!” Henry said. He was completely dumbfounded too shocked to even follow him. Why did he just run away like that?
“Maybe he doesn’t want to be known.” Siwon tried, as if he’d heard Henry’s mental question.
“That’s ridiculous! He’s too good! People need to… they need to hear this music.”
“That’s what YouTube is for, Henry.”
“I… I can’t be satisfied with just that.” Henry shook his head; he was already formulating something in his head. “I’ll see you later Siwon.” And Henry ran off home.
Later apparently meant Monday since Henry didn’t appear at all over the weekend.
“Dude, where were you!” Donghae and Hyukjae both jumped him at his locker before Siwon could even get to him.
“Where was I?” asked Henry, completely clueless to the question.
“Yeah! This weekend. You were supposed to come to our party.” Hyukjae stated his hands on his hips.
“Oh that’s right that was this weekend…” mused Henry, shutting his locker and pulling on his backpack.
“YEAH where were you!?” Donghae said this time.
“Uh… At home. I was. … working on something.”
“AND IT WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR PARTY?” This time they spoke together, perfectly in sync.
“Well… Kinda. You’ll see later. Don’t worry.” Henry clapped his hands on their shoulders and broke away from them before they could complain about the missed party more, leaving them totally stumped.
The rest of the day Henry was elusive, even skipping lunch which he NEVER did-especially not on NACHO day. But he wasn’t there. The next day too, Henry was even more scarce. Siwon and Donghae were both starting to worry; just what the heck was their friend up to?
Siwon finally caught Henry Tuesday after school as he was making his way out of the building.
“Hey, yo. Where you going in such a rush?” Siwon asked, trying to hide the hurt in his voice.
“I gotta go Siwon; I have to get there on time.” Henry was trying to jerk out of the hold Siwon had on Henry’s arm.
“Ge-… The piano guy?!”
“Yeah! I-.. I figured it out. I know how I can at least get him to talk to me… You can come with if you want but I have to get there on time.” All Henry had in his hands was his violin, instrument still in its case but the bow in his hand.
Siwon could guess what was going on and given the options he was presented with he decided to go with. Which was good for Henry because then Siwon could watch over his violin case as he began to play.
The notes were unsure at first, played quietly around the music the man at the piano was playing but as Henry listened and walked closer he was able to identify the tune and began to play with him.
The music that the pianist played was still original but it was all based around the same general tune. Henry had spent all weekend watching every video he could find of him as well as his own chunk and had composed something on his violin to go with the music.
There were a few other avid listeners of that man and they were all shocked to hear the violin as its tunes slowly drifted over towards them on the winds. The pianist stopped once he heard it too, turning to look at Henry with a shocked look.
But Henry was just smiling at him, fingers still posed over the violin. The pianist didn’t know what to do… It was almost as if they were at a standoff-so Henry took the first step. He took a careful breath and began to play what he had written and memorize over the weekend.
A soft gasp was heard not just from the crowd but from the pianist as well. Both of his hands were clasped over his heart as he heard the music that Henry was playing, knowing instantly that it was written to go along with his own. Harder tears came to his soft brown eyes, his hands moving to his mouth as he just listened to what was being played for him.
But Henry didn’t want to just play for him… He wanted to play with him. So he slowly stopped and looked at him before saying,
“Will you play with me?” His head inclined towards the piano and the pianist nodded, immediately turning back to the piano. He nodded a few more times before softly whispering a ‘Yes’ and he began to play.
It was as Henry has suspected. All based around the same tune… Henry was able to play along with him for over an hour. Their crowd was bigger than the one the pianist drew on his own. Once he was done playing, Henry lowered his violin and looked around for Siwon. He was long gone but the case had been set nearby. There was a note tucked inside, which Henry didn’t notice at first as he put away his violin.
“Can I… Know your--” He wasn’t able to finish his sentence before he was enveloped with a hug from behind. “N-… n… Uhm.” The word was lost as Henry looked down to the arms around him.
“Thank you…” The pianist whispered; Henry could feel how his back was growing damp with tears and he turned around in those arms carefully so that he could return the hug gently.
“You’re welcome.” Henry said to him, holding his head gently as that man cried into his chest.
Once he had calmed down, Henry offered him a tissue which he took with a light laugh.
“Sorry… I … always dreamed… someone would… would come play with me.” The man apologized and spoke softly in that musical voice of his; in just as beautiful as the last time Henry heard it.
“I had to…” Henry began, “Your music was so beautiful. I’ve never heard anything better…”
“I have.” Retorted the man with a smile.
“Oh?”
“Yours.” Henry blushed heavily at the words as did the other man. “What’s your name?” the pianist asked, wiping away the last of his tears though his eyes were obviously still strained.
“Henry…. What’s yours?” The question was finally able to be asked.
“Ryeowook.”

A few weeks later the note that Siwon had left in his violin case was discovered. Ryeowook was sitting at Henry’s keyboard playing with the sheet writing software as Henry read that beautifully scrawled out hand writing.
Henry -
I’m sorry I didn’t stay.
The music was beautiful.
I can tell that…
You’ve found your musical soul mate.
Always hold him dear to your heart
As you will always be in mine.
I love you,
Siwon.
Henry teared up a bit as he read the letter, smiling as he looked between it and the man at his keyboard. Siwon had seen from the beginning what Henry only knew now. That pianist, Ryeowook, was his musical soul mate. And he would love him forever.
A/N:CAN’T YOU JUST SEE WOOKIE TURNING AROUND AND SMILING AT HENRY RIGHT AFTER HE THINKS THAT?! I SO TOTALLY CAN. ;O; CUTE BABIES SO SO CUTE!!
