I went on a circuit (
Anywhere but Pittsburgh...) a few weeks ago. I've hesitated making the post, not because I did not enjoy it, but because I wanted to relax and now that the 6-hour long breaks between my classes has commenced, the post is due. First, the circuit (prolonged stays at the yellow tags):
Now, the food highlights:
- Toronto, Canada -- King's Cafe, in Kensington, where the dish named Tofu Faith featured tofu rolls stuffed with--I kid you not--yum. How can one pass on yum!? The proportion of yum was liberal and good.
- Cincinnati, OH -- I ate a lot of home-cooked meals, including, but not limited to, GardenBurger riblets. We did go out to a place called Dewey's Pizza, a chain, but nonetheless good. I had an Edgar Allen Poe (foreshadowing) and Green Lantern. Tasty with a very subdued crust.
- Williamsburg, VA -- I CouchSurfed with a young lady who provided a wonderfully spicy Coconut Stir Fry. Then on T-day, my imaginary friend Eileen cooked some imaginary pasta with imaginary veggies and her mom's secret--and imaginary--pecan pie, the recipe in my pocket journal is the only evidence, but evidence of what? An overactive imagination? Or an overactive imaginary friend?
- Baltimore, MA -- Scrambled tofu burrito with veggie sausage at One World Cafe. The tofu was prepared in this secret dust, the portion was hefty and kept me going all day long. The Polenta Breakfast at Golden West Cafe was a delight. Blue and white corn polenta sautéed and served with green chile sauce, salsa, a couple of fried eggs, and veggie sausage. I downed several cups of coffee from Zeke's while waiting for GWC pumpkin seed, chocolate chip, and walnut cookies to bake. The waitress hands me the cookies, waits for me to taste, then asks, with a mock-frown, you don't like them? How could I not? Amazing.
