Swift is a problem for Rue. Basically, he's not really quite sure what to think of him. He likes the other har most of the time, but still, he's nervous of him simply because he's unsure where he stands with him. It is very nice to have someone who has harlings of their own to discuss things with which makes it so much easier for understanding and such. He's quite sure that Swift thinks fondly of him, and he knows he can rely on Swift if he needs someone to hold him when things aren't going well.
Yet however comforting Swift is, there's still a distance between them. No matter how closely they bond, it's almost a gulf of ages. Swift's naivity and hopefulness that everything will turn out well in the end, just make Rue tired sometimes. He also has trouble with the fact that Swift is so close with Cal and Pell. It makes him feel ackward and uncomfortable seeking him out.
