His hand had fallen into a rhythm as she talked, matching out her inflections and tone and then slowly, discretely soothing all the tension from the girl

It helped him ignore the small spark of happiness that the other boy was still here, that he wasn't alone again. He hated that need and so he ignored it just as he ignored the boy who caused it
