I must check up on the status of my application for membership of The British Veterinary Voodoo Society . After all, I want to be able to cure animals by sticking pins in a wax doll that looks like Prince Charles !
In my experience, people tend to use Homeopathics against either mild ailments or chronic diseases. In the first case, scientific treatment is not really needed, in the second it is often found to be pretty useless. So I wouldn't really blame people for using it: 1) they're no worse off medically 2) they feel better 3) it's almost always cheaper 4) no side effects
I agree with the sentiment, people getting better is what we want (or wasting a little of their money and not getting any worse is also no great crime).
The problems are:
1) If say, NHS resources were going towards homeopathic remedies rather than actual medicine, then that's a waste of resources and some people will be worse off medically. The NHS does fund, I believe, 3 homeopathic clinics.
2) True, but they could just take the actual medicine and get the benefit of actual pharmacological effects plus the placebo effect
( ... )
I think that article's really unfair. Homeopathy does a lot of good. I took some when I was suffering with Undertheweatheritus, and I was cured within weeks. Name me one conventional medicine that can do that.
