Name: Alcide Herveaux
Fandom: True Blood
Timeline Summary: After 4x12. Alcide has just discovered that Russell Edgington has broken free of his concrete prison.
Background:
There’s
this Wiki background, but it’s incomplete. It ends in the middle of Season 4, after Alcide and Debbie are initiated into the Shreveport pack.
After seeing Sookie and Eric having sex in the woods, Alcide is troubled. As a were, he doesn’t get along well with vampires, or even likes them to begin with. He honestly doesn’t feel that Sookie is safe with them. Alcide’s feelings about Sookie are so transparent at this point that Debbie is even suspicious of his ties to her. Although he reassures Debbie that he doesn’t feel that way about Sookie, she still has her reservations.
When Marcus calls the Shreveport pack to a meeting and warns them against not getting involved with the witches and the vampires, he makes it known to Alcide that he could make it up the ranks rather quickly. Alcide is reluctant to accept, but eventually does so under Debbie’s behest-though he does it to prove his loyalty to her. Even so, the same night, Alcide makes his way to see Sookie out of pure concern. When she doesn’t answer her door, he tracks her to the graveyard, where he finds her with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He rescues her and takes her back to her home.
Bill is successful in reviving Sookie with his blood, while Alcide stays in the room. When Sookie comes to, she is set on finding Eric. Alcide does not agree with it at all, and warns her to stay away from the fangers. When she refuses, he storms out and returns to his home with Debbie, who is clearly distraught, but fakes being asleep so Alcide doesn’t see.
The following night, after Alcide agrees to meet with Marcus and a few of the other men in the pack. They intend to “speak” with Sam Merlotte about his associations with Marcus’ ex-wife, Luna. Unknown to them, the person who comes to call is not Sam, but his brother, Tommy, in Sam’s form. Instead of talking, the men start beating up on Tommy and accidentally end up hurting him to the point of near-death. Alcide, who decided to take no part in the violence, takes Tommy’s body and brings him to Merlotte’s, where the real Sam meets them.
Though Sam seems to be intent on saving Tommy by finding him some vampire blood to drink, Alcide stops him, stating that Tommy has a right to choose the way he goes, and Tommy does not want to be saved. After Tommy dies, Alcide chooses to accompany Sam to find Marcus, Tommy’s killer.
Paths cross when Luna, shows up at Marcus’ garage. As Alcide and Sam are trying to find Marcus’ location, Luna gets a telephone call from her daughter at a number she doesn’t know, which Alcide realizes is his phone at his house. They make their way over there, where Luna finds her daughter and Sam and Alcide make their way upstairs to confront Marcus.
They find Marcus in the master bedroom with a pants-less Debbie. Alcide pulls Debbie out of the confrontation between Sam and Marcus. Sam resolves not to kill Marcus. As soon as he turns his back, Marcus reaches for the gun, but Alcide stops him and tackles him down to the ground by his throat, and in the process, crushes his windpipe, killing him. Afterward, he turns to Debbie and abjures her (“Debbie Pelt, I abjure you. I see you no longer. I hunt with you no longer. I share flesh with you no longer.”)
The next day, Alcide goes to see Sookie at Merlotte’s and reveals his feelings to her. Unfortnately, Sookie doesn’t seem to return the feelings, but they’re interrupted by a phone call to Alcide. Apparently, he receives news that Russell Edgington has broken free of his concrete prison. Alcide goes to check the situation out himself and finds a big hole in the ground and the silver chains used to bind him.
Personality:
Along with his rugged good looks and southern accent, Alcide Herveaux is considerate, caring, understanding, and trustworthy; he gives most people the benefit of the doubt. Alcide is pretty much an all-around nice guy, and almost the perfect boyfriend. He is loyal and faithful to a fault. This is apparent in his relationship with Debbie Pelt, and their on-and-off relationship that spans two seasons. He loves her, and is hurt when she had left him for another man (Season 3), but is still genuinely concerned about her when he finds out that part of the reason is because she is addicted to V.
Though he is extremely loyal and faithful to Debbie when they get back together, Alcide seems to have an undeniable attraction to Sookie Stackhouse. He obviously cares for her enough to go out of his way to save her life-more than once. He denies having feelings for Sookie to Debbie, and even to himself. It may be why he constantly succumbs to Debbie’s wishes-to prove to himself that he really doesn’t have feelings for Sookie.
Even though Alcide is a generally nice guy, he appears to be a bit of a loner. He wants to keep away from pack affairs when he moves to Shreveport, due to what had happened to his pack back in Jackson. He blatantly refuses Marcus’ offer to join the Shreveport pack, but is later talked into joining by Debbie. Alcide looks beyond the politics of the pack, and simply believes in doing what’s right. He has a sense of justice when it comes down to it. He goes as far as to defend Sam Merlotte’s brother when Marcus and a few men of the Shreveport pack beat up and eventually kill him. He sides with Sam to bring justice over his brother’s death.
Alcide is not a pushover by any means, nor is he immune to anger or rage. Being “about 6’6” and wide as a door” makes him quite intimidating when he’s angry. Add a rumbling voice and a low growl, he becomes someone you don’t want to mess with. That being said, Alcide is perfectly capable of killing with his bare hands, as he did with Marcus (by snapping his neck with his hands). As it is with the majority of the were community, Alcide has a distaste for vampires. Weres are often looked down upon by vampires. On the other hand, weres look down on shifters, who seem to be on the bottom of the barrel in terms of hierarchy.
All in all, Alcide is pretty much a good guy that you don’t want to get on the bad side of.
Powers, Skills, and Abilities:
Alcide is a pure-blooded werewolf. In the True Blood universe, they’re typically referred to as “weres” for short. Because he is of pure blood, he can shift into his wolf form whenever he wants-day or night; full moon or not. Though during a full moon, a werewolf feels the need to shift even more, along with the urge to hunt. In his wolf-form, Alcide is a white wolf with orange eyes. At times, when Alcide is provoked enough, his eyes will change color in his human form.
As far as when he’s in his human form, Alcide does retain specific senses and abilities from being a werewolf. His sense of smell is better than that of the average human-he is able to track others by their scent. He is stronger than the average human as well (he was easily able to kill Marcus with his bare hands), though not as strong as a vampire. His body temperature is a few degrees above the average human as well.

First Person:
[A ruggedly handsome man appears on your screen. His hair is a bit tousled, and he has a quite the scruffy beard. He apparently doesn’t realize that the video function is on, since right now, he’s standing around without a shirt. It only lasts for a moment though, since he’s in the process of pulling his shirt on. He looks confused-he has no idea where he is or why he’s in a decrepit hospital.
Finally he grabs the communication device-or cell phone. At least, that’s what it looks like to him. Now there’s a good shot of his face, since now he means to send out a transmission. When he begins to speak, you’ll notice the soft southern accent in his deep voice.]
Alright. If anyone can hear this, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me where I am. How’d I wake up in a place like this? It looks like some shit from a horror movie or somethin’.
[He pauses and looks around a bit more. There’s something eerie about this place.]
Look, whatever’s goin’ on here, I’d like to get some answers. Somethin’s not-
[Now you can see a nurse creeping up behind him. Obviously, he senses her and whirls around, dropping the device to the bed. Everything is a blur for a moment, but there’s a growl, and a scuffle can be heard in the background. A moment later, the newcomer comes back on screen. His eyes flash a burning orange color for a split second, and then fades away. He’s huffing, a bit out of breath.]
Of all the fucking things… I just woke up in a goddamn zombie apocalypse, didn’t I?
Third Person:
The full moon. All kinds of crazy things happened during a full moon. Alcide knew that for just about his whole life now. And around here? Here was definitely no exception. It seemed as though all the crazy things happened in and around Bon Temps.
Alcide stood by a window watching the sunset fade and the skies darken. His new house in Shreveport was supposed to be the start of a new life for him and Debbie. She’d returned to her old self again-and Alcide intended for her to stay that way. That was part of the reason why he built the house and decided to move away from Jackson. Too many bad memories there.
But that was only part of the reason. The other reason, even though it wasn’t completely evident to himself yet, was Sookie. Alcide felt compelled to watch over her, to keep her safe. He knew that she was running around with those fangers, and although he didn’t approve, he knew he really couldn’t stop her if he tried. All he could do was be there if she needed him. The girl could take care of herself, but she really wasn’t a match for any supe.
Arms curled around his waist.
“Are you ready to go?” Debbie asked, her head resting on his back.
Tonight, on the night of the full moon, he and Debbie would be initiated into the Shreveport pack. They would hunt, and then take their place amongst their new brothers and sisters. It was actually really convenient that there was a full moon, though there would be other things in the woods on a full moon-they wouldn’t be the only ones.
“I’m doing this for you, baby,” he told her, turning around. He planted a kiss on her head. “If it makes you happy to be a part of somethin’, then I’ll be there with you every step of the way. If it means that much to you…”
She smiled up at him, and took his hand. “Come on Alcide. We don’t wanna be late. Besides, I can’t wait to get out in the woods. The moon is just callin’ me out there!”
He couldn’t disagree with her on that. The full moon just had that power-he needed to be a wolf, and he needed to hunt. There was no other way around it.
Alcide smiled back at her and let her lead him out the door, grabbing his leather jacket on the way out.
