Whatever the cost to the world, we must standardise on line endings.

It seems that sed.exe processes lines according to DOS pairs, but its regexp engine matches $ to either end-of-line character.

That sounds at least consistent with the OS it runs on (assuming you meant to write sed.exe and not /usr/bin/sed or similar).

But yes, it is a bit, well, daft.
