chapter 2: Persuasion
"Ohayou guzaimasu." Yukimura-san, the producer, greeted the disoriented Eri.
it was early the next morning. When Eri came down for breakfast, she was startled by the presence of a stranger who introduced himself as a producer.
"O-ha-you..." Eri rubbed her eyes and blinked hard, "Eh? chotto, what did you say you were here for again?"
"Maa, maa... Show our guest some courtesy." her mother interrupted, holding some bowl of breakfast food then turned to Yukimura-san, "We're just about to have breakfast. Why don't you join us?" she ushered them towards the dining room. Yukimura-san reluctantly obliged.
The producer introduced himself once again once they were settled on the table. As he talked about why he came, Eri found it harder to swallow her food. When he got to the part about the director wanting her to act and no other, she finally choked.
"Daijoubu?" Yukimura-san hurriedly offered her water.
She drank some and nodded her head, tapping her chest.
Her mother was also surprised upon hearing it especially when turned his attention to her, "Please give her permission to do the CM. We will definitely take good care of her." he bowed.
"Eh?" her mom was startled. She turned to Eri. "I will support whatever my daughter decides upon." she said after some thought, smiling at Eri, her hands on her daughter's shoulder.
Eri looked at her mother gratefully.
"Ano, I don't have any acting experience beside school plays..."she started then thought of school, "School! right! I still have to go to school! Besides that, I help my mom with the gift shop." she reasoned out.
"School acting experience is basically good already. It still counts. Don't worry there will be some acting coach and the director will be there to guide you. We won't be shooting 'til weekend starts. You can be assured that you will be compensated accordingly." Yukimura-san persuaded.
"Compensated?" Eri repeated.
"Yes, of course we don't expect you to work for free. This CM's company will take care of the expenses." Yukimura-san explained.
Eri thought of the upcoming Christmas. She planned in giving her family and friends something special but has not been able to save much.
"Ano, are you sure that it's alright for a newbie like me to do this? I mean, it's a commercial, what if no one would buy the product because of me?" She asked after running things through her mind.
"Hai." Yukimura-san answered firmly. "We also believe in the director's choice."
That doesn't sound so convincing. she doubted.
"Ja..." She searched her mother's eyes for some help. Her mother smiled and nodded.
"Ganbarrimasu!" she finished.
"Hontou desu ka?" Yukimura-san brightened up.
"Hai." she nodded.
"Yokatta! Arigatou guzaimasu!" he shook their hands. "I'll be back later with the papers, script and other information." he looked at his watch. The gesture also made Eri look at her own watch. Her eyes went wide again when she realized the time.
"I'm gonna be late again!" she exclaimed, standing.

"Minna, hontou ni arigatou!" Eri bowed gratefully. "Ja, osaki. See you all." she waved before she left.
"Mata ne!" everyone replied. Rina followed her.
"Ja, I'll leave the rest to you. I promise to make it up." Eri said to Rina.
"Daijoubu da yo. I also asked this from you whenever I have modelling schedules so it's my turn this time to cover for you." Rina smiled, "I'm really glad you accepted this project."
"Arigatou. I'm getting nervous already." Eri admitted placing her bag in the basket.
"Heki heki. You'll do fine. Ganbatte!" Rina cheered.
"Ganbarrimasu!" Eri replied mounting her bicycle and pedaled away.

Eri heaved a huge sigh before entering the studio. Unlike last time, everyone's eyes followed her. Some greeted her and she greeted them back. Yukimura-san came back later that day with what he promised to bring and told her to come to the studio the next day before the shooting proper that's going to happen the following day. She walked on until she saw Yukimura-san and Chinen. They seem to be discussing something. They turned to her as she approached.
"Konnichiwa." she bowed.
"Konnichiwa." they greeted back.
"So glad you could make it." Yukimura-san said.
It sounds like I just attended a party. She thought.
"Yazaki-san, Yoroshiku ne?" Chinen smiled.
"Kochira koso. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu."Eri replied.
"What are you carrying?" Yukimura-san pointed at the rather packed plastic bag.
Eri was not able to answer, Tanaka-san arrived.
"Eri-chan! I heard you finally gave in." Tanaka-san smiled. "Douzo, purezento." He handed her a carefully wrapped box. "Otanjoubi Omedatou." he patted her head.
"Arigatou guzaimasu!" Eri accepted the gift gratefully.
"Eh? Yazaki-san, it's your birthday today?" Yukimura-san repeated the obvious.
"Ah, hai. Sou desu." Eri admitted.
"Otanjoubi Omedatou!" Chinen greeted, smiling at her.
"Arigatou." She smiled back.
"Looks like we're full this year too huh?" Tanaka-san remarked as Eri placed the gift inside the bag.
"Sou desu ne... Everyone sort of went all out this year." Eri commented.
"Eh? What are you guys talking about?" Yukimura-san chimed in.
Chinen was looking inside the bag. "Woah, are all those presents for you?" he asked.
Eri scratched her head, before nodding.
"Eri's one of the most popular student in their school." Tanaka-san boasted.
"Iya, that's not exactly..." Eri defended, embarrassed.
"Eh~" Yukimura-san was wide-eyed.
The director interrupted their conversation.
"There's my new star!" He exclaimed placing his hand on Eri's shoulder.
Star? Isn't this just a commercial? She smiled uncannily.
