O-tanjoubi Purezento

He sighed as he gaze into the city lights that night from the rooftop of the company building. It has been five days since Rin’s birthday. He had been busy with various activities.

“What are you sighing for?” Rin startled him.

He spun around and found her standing a few feet away silently observing him with her hands behind her.

“Rin.” his expression mixed with surprise and happiness.

She smiled and walked towards him.

“I was looking for you? What is the main star doing out here?” she stood beside him facing the view and leaned on the railings. His eyes followed her.

“Wow, the city lights are beautiful. It almost looked magical at night.” She gasped as she took in the view.

He turned back towards the view and grasped the railings tight.

“Yeah…” he drifted. “I’m sorry I couldn’t spend this day with you. I really wanted to.” He said. “I couldn’t find you at the party downstairs. I thought you went home already. Dita and Jin didn’t say much either.” He sulked, bending down and resting his head on his hands.

She chuckled. “The birthday boy is sulking.” Kawaii…(so cute)

He was still gloomy.

“Tanjoubi Omedatou!(happy birthday)” she held out her present and let it dangled in front of his face. He blinked then straightened up.

He took the present. It was a silver electrical guitar keychain. It resembled his real guitar.

“Arigatou.” He beamed brightly.

“Glad you liked it. That’s only the first part.” She smiled. She took out a parcel from the bag she was hiding behind her and handed it to him.

“Open it.” She instructed.

He slowly unwrap it and found what looked like a jewelry case about the size of a shoe box. He tried to lift the lid but it wouldn’t budge. He examined it and found two keyholes in a small brass heart at the center of the box connected to the lid.

She smiled while observing him. He looked like a curious little boy with a new toy.

He looked quizzically back at her.

“It’s some kind of a time capsule and your key chain is one of the keys to it.” She explained.

He studied his keychain and found that the pointed end was shaped like a small old fashion key. He placed it inside the first key hole. It fits.

“And the other key?” he turned to her, his tone was excited.

“The other key is right here.” She held up her wrist to show the charm bracelet he gave her on her birthday. It made a jingling sound. He stared at it and noticed a new charm attached. It was a small key which resembles the one on his key chain.

“It won’t open unless we have both keys together.”

She took off her bracelet and inserted the key in the other keyhole then she motioned for him to turn the key just as she did so.

The lock clicked open.

He opened it but found nothing inside.

“Let’s store some of our memories together here.” She said as she took out something from her bag and placed it inside the box.

“It’s the bottle cap of the orange juice you gave me. I kept it as a memento.” She smiled at the memory.

“Sou ka. Ja…” he flashed her a smile as he fished out something from his pocket and placed it in the box.

“That…” she gasped as she remembered. He nodded. It was a ticket from the amusement park they went together before.

“It was a lot of fun. We should go there again.” He remarked.

“Sou da yo ne.” She agreed.

They were silent for a while as they reminisced. They ended up staring blankly at each other.

“This is really getting cheesy.” She laughed and shivered not only because of the cold wind that was blowing but also of the current situation.

He chuckled at her remark and shook his head.

“Well, be it as it may. I love it anyway. Arigatou.” He closed the box and wrapped his arms around her before giving her a long kiss.

“Kazunari-kun! Doko iku no?(where did you go?)” a male voice echoed through the speakers.

“They’re looking for you.” She said as they broke their kiss.

“Should we head back?” he asked not budging at all while locking his eyes with hers.

She nodded. “Let’s.” She agreed though not moving either.

They broke into laughter after a while.

“We really should go down now before they come up here.” She said as he replaced the bracelet around her wrist.

“They sound drunk already.” He sighed.

“Come on.” She took his hand and pulled him towards the stairs as they head back to the party.
