This may be a dumb question, but as I've never done this (and am always looking for yummy vegan things beyond TVP), do you use the whole apple, core and all? I don't imagine you just pop it in there, come to think of it. I bet you cube it or something, and when you do, you leave out the core.
I don't know. For a vegan, I'm not really all that big on vegetables. I just really like bunnies and cows and stuff. And yeah, I need more vegetables in my diet, and this sounds good. So. That was too much comment, wasn't it?
I'm glad there's another vegan on my flist! What I do is use a juicer for the greens, apple, and carrot, and then add that juice to my blender which also has the banana (or strawberry, etc.) in it. Sometimes I'll add some of the pulp from the juicer for more fiber and goodstuffs.
But my blender is just a small one - I know others make green smoothies by throwing everything into just a blender, but mine's neither big enough or strong enough to chop everything up small enough.
If you're juicing apples, just remember to take out the seeds! They have a trace amount of cyanide in them, and you don't want to be drinking that.
Juicing is also good because besides getting greens, you're also helping your digestive system by not letting it work so hard to get the nutrients out of the food.
You can get super juicers and spend a lot of money, but I just picked one up from Sears for $50 and so far it's working fine for me. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I must have a juicer now. I'm going to start looking around. It would be a very good thing.
