I have a feeling I'm going to hit the LJ limit on post length for this, but there is literally so much to be said and so many details I don't think I can really make it shorter. *OK, I really did run out of space. This will be two updates!

This entire post is going to be about every detail I can come up with in regards to the recent PW attempt by ( Read more... )

Great write up. I couldn't read through those huge BG threads so having all information in 1 place is great.

While people are making a lot of comparisons between PW and AV since both seem to be 'unbeatable', I feel like people consider them impossible for different reasons. With AV, it doesn't have that much HP - but just manages to wipe you so quickly. The wasted time is usually spent recovering from a wipe or back in the old kills, waiting on it to do a certain move (call wynavs).

In this fight, it seems like you guys were able to execute rather well in all aspects and really didn't show much downtime. It literally does, from start to finish, take 15+ hours to fight with no wipes. The most impressive (or sad) number for me was the total damage you were dealing per hour... just seemed like a huge time sink. Unless you are able to reduce the # of forms, it really does seem unfeasible.

Also, the way you guys semi-kited and killed adds with limited deaths was rather brilliant ;o

Yeah I agree, AV is a fight all about making very little progress in the fight itself. For the most part you're confined to one HP bar and having to deal with constant wipes, recoveries, and starting over.

PW on the other hand is making progress consistently all through the fight, but it's just that it takes like 20+ hours of progress to beat it.

Also I have to give credit for Richardd and his linkshell for the kiting idea, if not for the information they shared it would've taken us a lot longer to figure out the best way to handle lamps. With the info they shared, we had an entire strategy of what to do written up a week before the fight.

And, while I enjoy all of those creature comforts in other people's cars (furthmore, I would feel more comfortable knowing that every other car in the world had TCS and ASM installed.

Now this Mob does drop H2H supposely only 1% lower on parses then the dynamis relic h2h, and damn well, the best damn monk body in the game.
Getting to tier 5 is a challenge enough.. and not many LS will be able to beat this by skill even if it was only a 3 hour fight.
If SE is gonna make the fight 18+ hours, they better drop 20+ damn items for all 20 jobs so every damn job in the game can get 1 drop lol. (even thought there is more then 1 job of the same type present, well they get a title and thats it lol)

seriously.. SE is sick, for 18+ hours, I sure hope I get a 2009 BMW and Overtime Paycheck with him instead of a fire crystal.

I was thinking the same. :(

With how difficult the fight was, we actually thought that each of the PW lamps in his final form would drop items. Which really, would be the only possible way to justify the length of this fight. We killed one without it being CFH though, and it dropped nothing.

Even if PW dropped a completely full pool, which I doubt, it still wouldn't be worth it at this rate.

Poison II stuck towards the beginning of the fight, however not on undead and not past the Besieged general forms. I'm not sure if a resistance was built up since it does seem that each form has different resistances.

One more note, Conviction does not cut into a monster's resistance if it is immune. For example, an LI boss will not suffer a drop in lightning resistance, even when under the influence of the aura.

Thank you very much for writing this for everyone, Ruke. Having a full outline of what you guys experienced is very helpful.
