Awww. Also, we should each take the test you propose about ourselves: "I am wonderful because...." But probably in private.
Wouldn't it be great if you could get everybody who knows you (at least passingly well) to take a test (perhaps anonymously) about you? Just think what you'd learn! I would get answers to all those nagging questions ("when am I most fun/interesting to be around?" "what personal trait(s) do you wish I would work on improving?" "what's my biggest blind spot?") without worrying about being annoying narcissistic or obviously, unattractively insecure.
Ooh, I wonder if someone could set this up as an online service - like on lj or friendster?
I did have this opportunity once as part of a comprehensive professional development review -- though of course the question set was limited to professionally relevant ones. Still, it was fascinating to get an unvarnished account of other people's perceptions of me. Everybody - co-workers and clients - thought I was a strong extrovert. Heh. Suckers.
I always found those things sort of a cop out on the part of the manager. "Nonono, you're evaluating _ME_. I'm not evaluating me. I already KNOW I'm perfect. I'm just want to know if YOU'VE seen through my facade. If not, then we're good. Carry on."
Depends on how they're used. In this case, my input will be used to design for me a custom-tailored 2-year educational program in venture capital, as well as influence the selection of my external mentor for the fellowship/duration.
Well, see, now that's actually useful information. "Hmm, we need to build this program for personX. Who actually has the best idea about what personX needs to make that program successful? That wouldbe... PERSONX!"
