The thing about Charles V's armour collection sounds interesting too. I guess personal armour reached its zenith around the early 1500s, before guns became really efficient at cutting through it.
Charles' contemporary, Maximilian I, the Holy Roman Emperor, also had an obsession with armour, and gave Henry VIII the famous jousting helmet complete with eye-glasses and etched stubble, based on Maximilian himself.
