I love all those visions you have, they're so fresh and bouncy. Sadly, I have never, in all the years I've lived here, once associated ChCh with either fresh or bouncy, so I'm vaguely unhopeful. But who knows, maybe a different wind will blow through the musty old doors of the city council/CERA, stranger things have happened.

PS: M and I went and saw Avengers again. I kind of see what you meant, esp. in all the Cap. America scenes. Gag.

Yeah, unfortunately I think the rebuild is under the thrall of the usual conservative members of the old boys' network. There is a lot of passion for fresh and bouncy stuff among the twenty somethings of the city (or at least among the sample represented on twitter), but they are being carefully shut out of the process by the powers that be. This was just my way of amusing myself so in years to come I can look back and sigh over what we might have been able to do had we had a bit of creativity.

Whoops. Sorry to have destroyed that particular fantasy for you!

Oh I'm sure we'll have plenty of things to sigh over. Are you pro or anti cathedral, btw?

Re Avengers, nah it wasn't your fault. Just that whole being able to focus more on stuff the second time around. Cap. America was so awful. I know he had to be, but oh man, that god comment when he launches himself out of the plane, I died, I died.

Heh, well cathedral. I have had a long and somewhat conflicted fight with myself over it. If you want to see my various opinions click the 'cathedral' tag over thataway <-- (scurries off to be sure she tagged all mentions of the cathedral properly)

Mostly I think it was salvageable, I think it should have been saved, but it's obvious that the people in charge want it down so down it will come. Thus I have distanced myself from it for the sake of my sanity.

*snigger* I was rolling my eyes at all the 'freedom, god & the American way' stuff that saturated the first half & just couldn't bring myself to care.

All of your thoughts for the future make a lot of sense and seem very well reasoned. The "powers-that-be" should be YOU in charge of city planning. ;) I really hope much of what you have said here will happen. *hugs*

Haha thanks. I think the 'powers that be' should maybe take a breath, relax their strangle hold on 'process' and red tape and let creative people have a bit of fun being creative. They should also stop the focus on the CBD and do more to make life not-awful for those who live here. In particular sewerage needs to be sorted and some pressure needs to be put on insurers to get building rolling in the worst affected areas.

Heh, I totally should be in charge! :D

I like this plan. Don't get rid of it. You never know what may happen.

I doubt much of what I want to see will happen, but I'll be keeping tabs on this post to see what happens in the future and see if what we get is similar or, if different, if it's better or worse than what I want. I think it'll be interesting.
