It took me a moment to get the Some Assembly Required in this entry, and then I remembered building your game play deck. Homebuddy used to play in tournaments for rent money, just after Betas came out. He'd psych out his opponents by doing things like keeping score with pennies in binary (which was much less commonly known to your average nerd back in 93, than it is now), and whipping out a Mox Pearl that he'd actually DRAWN a SMILEY FACE on. There's nothing like watching the guy across the table practically gnawing his own fist off over freaking out at how you've completely devalued such a priceless collector's item. It caught them so off guard, it was well worth it every time. Some of the inventive moves he made at the time now have rules in place to prevent players since to be quite that ingenious. Sad, when you think about it, actually.
Ha, yeah, I think there's a lot of fun to be had the expense of the people who take the game far more seriously than others. Sure, proxies or modded cards aren't as welcome in some environments anymore, but just talking about them I'm sure would have a great effect.
