This brought a tear to my eye - this was a really wonderful look at how dogs (pets) bring us together. We've got three, and they're always at the center of family life. They just provide so much love.
I would have thought this was non-fiction, until I read the comments.
It's a beautiful story, with lovely details that make it seem real-- the Dadtionary, the father's incompetence at homemaking overturned, the Kermit tattoo, the mother who is finally forgiven.
Really, the whole emotional tone is quiet, gorgeous, and heartfelt.
I really appreciate the kind words! Like I said before, some of it is based on reality (the passing of a pet, a fractured family, a surprising well-maintained home of a parent who probably shouldn't have as much of a well-maintained home, etc.) so it didn't seem so hard to throw it all out there and then create the little details to bind it together.
