Dear Yuletide Author,
Hi! Can I just say that Yuletide is like, probably a good 75% of my favourite things about the holidays, and I am so delighted to be hanging out online with you for this one, we are going to have the best time! Or at least I hope it is the best - I am really very easy to please, and basically anything written in these fandoms will make me super happy, so don't fret too much if you have an idea that you want to go wild on that I haven't mentioned. I would be delighted to see anything you come up. And oh god, dear writer, a warning: I RAMBLE ON AND ON IN THIS. Feel free to ignore it all in favour of going with your gut.
I will also quickly note that my location and internet access is going to be a bit up in the air this Christmas, so please don't take a slow reply as me not loving the fic you write. I'm just not sure when exactly I'll have the chance to read it!
Here are some things that I generally love in stories: UST, pining, first times, sleepy or cold imagery, roadtrips, best friends that turn into something more, exploring the idea of both monogamy AND polyamory (although usually only in contexts where it makes sense, so probably not an Ariston/Ctesias fic that does this), domesticity (especially when coupled with the aforementioned UST), cats.
In terms of rating - I would be perfectly happy to get genfic, but feel free to get as porny as you like. I'm a particularly big fan of D/s and all the dynamics within, you can totally sell me on dub-con if you go about it carefully (and I've read some brilliant consensual non-con within a D/s relationship which was amazing); I love, love, love stories that explore ideas within D/s like subdrop and negotiating a relationship outside of the sex and arghhh, yes, seriously, you can win me over a million times with that. (Also, if you'd like a little specific list of D/s kinks I am super fond of: bondage, impact play, headgames, someone just bossing the other one around for the day, EVERYTHING.) However, I'd prefer something that wasn't PWP - like, if the plot is the D/s themes for example, go wild, but I'd prefer something character driven, however you want to convey that.
Squickwise, I'm pretty easy, there's not much I don't like. I guess avoid watersports & co.? I don't like character bashing, is one thing I'd say, especially not of women, and in the context of these stories I'd rather no incest.

Sign up details: I would be absolutely overcome with delight if you wrote Ariston/Ctesias fic, which deals with their inevitably antagonistic relationship in whatever way you saw best. Requesting this for the third time running and my prompt is going to be largely the same - so first off, in case you picked this under "any" and are suddenly going, "uh, who is this Ctesias dude", I'm talking about the guys represented in Demosthenes's legal speech "Against Conon". (You can, incidentally, read that here, should you decide to give it a chance despite not being familiar with the source. It's a pretty small source.) I spent a good part of my semester studying this text and I just -- I love the characters in it so much, I love prickly pompous little Ariston, the way he announces at the beginning that just because he's clearly a baby doesn't mean you shouldn't totally take his advice and fucking sentence this bro to death (or fine him a lot, w/e), his incredible self-righteousness and the way he picks and picks at what a shitty person Ctesias is, even as he's suing Ctesias's dad. Basically I totally fell in love with him while reading, and I would take a million stories about him and Ctesias and the kind of antagonistic, grumpy, similar little guys they could be -- because the only information we have about Ctesias's character is from the speech and most of that is slander, you can go totally wild in making him be whatever you want, though I would love it if you based him on details you found in the text. Some stories I would be particularly interested in: the days they first meet at the army camp on garrison duty, where Ctesias and his friends are drunk every day and Ariston is a little :| :| :|-faced dude, follow flirtiness/hijinks/confrontation/sex there! Or the one after Ariston has announced he's taking Conon to court and Ctesias tracks him down! Or the one on the morning of the court case, or right after, or where they run into each other months after! The one where they fight about who tops! The one where Ctesias swaggers around being a provocative douche and Ariston gets progressively more scowly about it! All the stories in the world about them are ones that I would welcome, essentially. Somehow one of my fiercest OTPs became two people that no one has ever written any fic about whatsoever, so if you wrote this pairing, I would probably be overcome with joy.
I also listed Theodotus from "Against Simon" (a shorter speech, by Lysias), because I thought that struggle over this one boy between Simon and the unnamed Narrator was fascinating -- I would be really interested in a story about how it feels to be caught in the middle of that; or, on a more humourous note, Theodotus getting pissed at Lysias's unnamed narrator for running away and figuring Theodotus will be okay as long as he headed for a crowd, see you later, bb!
The Obernewtyn Chronicles - Rushton, Elspeth, Ariel
Sign up details: I'm really interested in the potential threesome dynamic here - they all have so much history, and even though Ariel is much more dangerous and dark in that history, Rushton and Elspeth have been kind of equally messed up with regard to each other and their constant miscommunications and prickly willful misunderstandings. I'd love to see how a romantic relationship would work out between the three of them, but genfic would also be equally fascinating to me. I've been obsessed with these books since I was ten, and I recently fell back in love with them after catching up on the last few books that have been published. I imprinted young and hard on the Elspeth/Rushton relationship - I love the way Elspeth has the upper hand there, Rushton's fierce and desperate pining, how important they both are to each other and how bad they are at expressing that. But I am also a predictable girl at heart who fell hard for the antagonist of the series, and I think Ariel is such a brilliant character - in his obsessive hatred of Elspeth, in his weird and murky motivations that don't entirely make sense at this point in the series (seriously, it takes a special kind of madness to want to destroy the entire world. What is up with that? I mean, I am not convinced at all that he is the Destroyer, but it certainly kind of seems like he thinks he is, and that's so, so weird to me, how do you get like that?). He's a really difficult character to love, because he's such a fucked up little shit who does terrible things, but I do love him, so.
I would really love a story that explored any and all relationships within the Elspeth/Rushton/Ariel dynamic. Whether you wanted to go with the threesome or pick a pairing out of this, that would be fine (although if you go with Rushton/Ariel, please don't write Elspeth off - it would be cool if she had some sort of role in it!), I just want more about the way they relate to each other. (Elspeth and Ariel having a sort of grim contest of will over who wins Rushton? Answer: everybody wins, especially me.) Again, though, totally not necessary.
And finally, an admission - now that I am no longer thirteen, I find Elspeth and Rushton's constant endearments kind of gut-squirmingly embarrassing, so if you wanted to go OOC by cutting back on those, I would be totally okay with that. *g*
Actor RPF - Samantha Ronson, Lindsay Lohan, Kristen Stewart
Sign up details: I still ship Sam/Lindsay really hard, and would love a story that was just a look into their lives, something warm and prickly at once, like them. Oh god, so for a while there Sam/Lindsay was definitely an OTP to end all OTPs, I am still not quite over them. I'm fascinated by the way they interacted with each other and the way they worked in and out of the public eye: the way Lindsay talked about Sam in interviews, the paparazzi photos, that intense lack of privacy and the way that also people just refused to believe in them in a way. And I feel incredibly sad about the way they didn't make it, whether those reasons are because of that attention or not.
But having said that, I would prefer a story about these guys that wasn't too angsty: moments of sweetness, or (preferably!) of them being grungy and catty and rude and also totally in love with each other. If you wanted to set this post-breakup, that would be fine, as long as there was some interaction -- they're clearly still friends, and I'd love to see that dynamic explored. But I would particularly like to see something with them together, in whatever way you wanted to do that. I like domestic things, so spending an afternoon lounging around an apartment together, or going on a roadtrip (!) together would be totally awesome, but if you wanted to write fic where they first got together, or acknowledged they were together, I'd be into that, too! Or maybe you want to write fixit fic, or getting back together fic, or trying to get back together and failing fic - GO FOR IT, BREAK MY HEART. If you're looking for inspiration, here's a really darling picspam of them. I also like AUs, but for these two I'd rather something still recognisably modern -- a "not famous" AU would be cool to read, though (whatever way you took that -- dirty hipsters bumming around in LA not doing much of anything? Awesome! Lindsay is in a band and Sam ends up at one of her shows? Would read so hard). I don't mind drug use, but I'd rather it wasn't made into a big thing, and that it wasn't just there for the hell of it; I like the idea of exploring Lindsay's somewhat trainwreck-like life, but I don't want anything that puts too much emphasis into drugs/alcohol and not enough into them as people. Really, my main concern: don't be too mean to Lindsay, please!
I also listed Kristen Stewart in here, who has not, to my knowledge, interacted that importantly with either of them, but GOD I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She's just the coolest, most fascinating, funniest woman, and I would love a story about her, though I'd prefer you avoid the latest events with the whole "cheating scandal" just because they make me so mad about the way everyone's treated her. If you want ideas: I forgot to nominate other characters for this category, but I'd love to read about her and Robert Pattinson in some sort of domestic situation, preferably a platonic one because the idea of them having a lavender marriage cracks me up - it could be set in that house they apparently co-own in LA, where they sit around and get high and complain about the media and fans and everything, and occasionally Kristen kicks him out when she brings a girl home. (Or maybe she doesn't kick him out, because Rob would totally be the Chandler to Kristen's Joey, just saying, there to make girls breakfast in the morning.) Or if you wanted to pair her up with another actress like Dakota Fanning or hell, Ellen Page, I would be super into that! If you want to write a story about Kristen Stewart falling in love, that would be cool - if you wanted to write a story about Kristen Stewart fucking around and having a good time, that would also be cool as fuck. Or if you just wanted to write fic about her on her own, genfic about her dealing with the industry and being clever and wry and tough, I would love that, too. Really, I would read a story about Kristen Stewart shaving her legs with incredible attention and delight. I love her. Sign up details: I love George so much in this series, though she kind of breaks my heart. I'm particularly interested in the way she relates to Jo and Anne - with Jo, I ship it really hard, I would love some pairing fic about them: first times and getting together are preferred over an established relationship, but if you wanted to write them in the midst of a Confused Thing that would also be lovely. I'm also really interested in the George & Anne dynamic - we don't get to see nearly enough of them on their own in the books, so if you wanted to expand on that, that would be amazing.
I went on a massive Famous Five reread at the beginning of this year, and got way more invested in it than I'd expected. I love George incredibly, and my heart kind of breaks over her, the way Blyton can't ever decide how seriously to take George-who-wants-to-be-a-boy, the way she expresses her genderqueerness, but also how lonely she is, how desperately she wants a family and how sometimes it seems that she never quite fits in with the Kirrin siblings. But I also love Anne, for her quiet fury at times and how she can be so grumpy and fierce and yet also keeps the others alive with her food and looking out for them all. And I love Jo, and how rough she is, and the ways in which she's similar with George and the ways in which she's not, but the way that she will always, always plunge in to save George with an exasperated sort of sigh whenever it needs doing. (Seriously, find me a Famous Five book that features Jo where she doesn't rescue George at some point. I'm not convinced it exists.)
I would really love some George/Jo fic for this fandom - something that talks about how complicated it is, and has prickly jealousy (Jo loves Dick best, huh?) and temper tantrums and uncertainty about gender and sexuality and relationships. (I'd rather not have a coming out fic, per se, in the sense where everything is solved and George comes out with a definitive identity, because that's not how I read her indecision, but if you have definite thoughts about that, I'm sure you could convince me otherwise! And I totally have indulgent fantasies about Jo's foster mother coming upstairs to tell her that her young man is there to visit, so.) If you wanted to set this a little in the future, I'd love fic about them in their late teens and twenties, though I'd rather not get too old, because part of what I love about these books is that nostalgic feel to the time period. I'd love something that talks about all the ways they shouldn't work together, and then shows how they absolutely do, I am kind of a hopeless romantic when it comes to these two. And if pairing fic isn't your thing, I'd also love gen about them, or gen about George and Anne (I love those snippets of books where it is just George & Anne - I always wish we got to see more of their friendship without the boys), or even gen about Anne & Jo (maybe they team up to rescue George!).
When it comes to this series, the nostalgia and hilarity of it really is a good part of my love, so feel free to go wild with the food descriptions and hilarious slang. And I love Jo, and how rough she is, and the ways in which she's similar with George and the ways in which she's not, but the way that she will always, always plunge in to save George with an exasperated sort of sigh whenever it needs doing. (Seriously, find me a Famous Five book that features Jo where she doesn't rescue George at some point. I'm not convinced it exists.)
I would really love some George/Jo fic for this fandom - something that talks about how complicated it is, and has prickly jealousy (Jo loves Dick best, huh?) and temper tantrums and uncertainty about gender and sexuality and relationships. (I'd rather not have a coming out fic, per se, in the sense where everything is solved and George comes out with a definitive identity, because that's not how I read her indecision, but if you have definite thoughts about that, I'm sure you could convince me otherwise! And I totally have indulgent fantasies about Jo's foster mother coming upstairs to tell her that her young man is there to visit, so.) If you wanted to set this a little in the future, I'd love fic about them in their late teens and twenties, though I'd rather not get too old, because part of what I love about these books is that nostalgic feel to the time period. I'd love something that talks about all the ways they shouldn't work together, and then shows how they absolutely do, I am kind of a hopeless romantic when it comes to these two. And if pairing fic isn't your thing, I'd also love gen about them, or gen about George and Anne (I love those snippets of books where it is just George & Anne - I always wish we got to see more of their friendship without the boys), or even gen about Anne & Jo (maybe they team up to rescue George!).
When it comes to this series, the nostalgia and hilarity of it really is a good part of my love, so feel free to go wild with the food descriptions and hilarious slang. I would just really love a story that featured bicycles and picnics and sunshine and trips along coasts or rolling green hills, with George's curly hair and Jo's tanned legs and Anne's pretty blouses, racing barefoot on grass with Timmy somewhere nearby. ♥
