He does! Yes, the theme does. I picked that up in my story too, but blamed it on the TARDIS needing a rest, because the Doctor would blame it on the TARDIS. That's just the way he is.
Oh god, this was just a really incredible piece-your portrayal of the Doctor at the beginning was eerily fitting and just heart-wrenching, you showed his life and scars so beautifully, and how he could never, ever rest because he had so much to run from, he couldn't stop. With all he has seen, done, been part of, created, a suspended road of nebulous black and crimson red has been weaved. It stretches out behind so grossly; he never dares to look back. Lives lost. Villains defeated. But mostly, price of his egoism. Gapes and wounds, the impenetrable cost. All the writing was just stunning, but this part was a highlight. The words stabI loved the way you portrayed Clara's haunted eyes and quiet question, and the way you showed that she shared his burden somehow, having been torn across his long, painful life, having seen it all. I loved the way he could have walked away after his short response, but her small gesture lured him closer, and her quiet, watchful, knowing presence slowly lulled him to sleep, allowed him to let down his

I'm glad the Doctor's portrayal worked. I love writing him, but it's always a bit of a challenge too, a fun one, and yet the whole strive is to get him right.
I wanted those words to work that you quoted. Glad they did. What gets me and what I thought a lot of while writing this was when Ten was human for a bit and captured the alien criminals. He's chilling there, after a mess of human emotions. And the more we get of the Doctor the more we see that he does have this great ego which often he's battling because to just accept himself as someone so great is a huge mistake and really a fallacy. He is dark as much as he is good. Sobering as much as he is silly.
I love writing Clara and the Doctor and their connection. Just something special about that for me.
^_^ Glad it pleased you! Oh god, yes, the Family of Blood. That episode was so striking adn amazing and full of feels ♥ But I entirely get what you mean. The Doctor certainly has darkness in him, and I love fics that tackle that side of the character… Fascinating :D
