I've been an inclusion special ed teacher since August. I'm still struggling a bit to get accustomed to the idea of having a grown-up job, and some days are better than others. I totally hear you on the disappointment in students vs anger at the circumstances that have failed them. I deal with it every day. Teaching in a Title I school the last 5 years has been a really unique experience, that's for sure.

I don't think you need to swear off romance, maybe just swear off being dependent on it for happiness? Be happy with you and who you are, that way you can enjoy romance when it happens but not fall to pieces when it leaves. Because sadly, it does eventually leave.... even it's 30 years from now while you hold their hand in the hospital.
