"NaNoDoucheMo"... No Kidding

So, if you don't know what it is, NaNoWriMo (which happens in Novemeber) is National Novel Writing Month. What it is, is an organized effort by independent writers to reach (and occasionally help each other reach, via helping with research, plot/characterization advice, etc.) a goal of writing at least 50,000 words' worth of a single novel, which ( Read more... )

I don't even participate in NaNo, but my goodness this fellow seems awfully full of himself.

I mean, I can throw blobs of paint at a canvas. But that doesn't make me Jackson Pollack.

You actually have to put some effort into it. What's the point of a self-improvement exercise if you cheat?

Sorry for the misleading post title. I'm thinking of starting National Opera Singing Month, or NaOpSiMo. It will remind me how much I love to sing, and how infrequently I actually do sing. I am not hiring a vocal coach or even listening to recordings of famous opera singers: I am simply going to bellow my fool head off for at least five hours every day. (I believe a fair "note count" for the month will be somewhere in the range of 1.8 million.) This will, by golly, give me the incentive I need to pursue a career as a professional opera singer. Anyone else want to play...?

I'm a little confused as to who you're parodying here, the guy I'm mocking or the whole collective of folks that do NaNoWriMo? I'm assuming a bit of both ( ... )

Wow, this kind of thing pisses me off.

I've been doing NaNoWriMo since 2004 or thereabouts. I've won a few, I've lost a few, I've written some total and complete crap, and I've written some stuff that I'm still working on and intend to try to get published someday. This year, despite depression and angst and life more or less going to hell, I got my arse in gear and wrote 12k words of fiction in two days and carried it over the 50k mark a day before deadline. And I've been showing my work to people, and so far have not got the 'you're writing crap' reaction once. Then again, years of NaNo and a lot of fanfic of dubious quality have given me a great deal of practice.

Suffice it to say that, between your efforts, my efforts, and the efforts of everyone I know who does NaNo, combined with the donation drive that's currently going on, fuckbakes like this who make a mockery of the whole process really piss me off. I hope he donated at least $10 to the site and the Offices of Letters and Light if he really believes that his fuckery counts
