“I’m just saying that maybe we should talk about what we are to each other and where this whole this is going.”

“Well, we aren’t in high school anymore, so boyfriend probably won’t work. Maybe you can call me your paramour.” Oz answered, sarcasm dripping from every word as he flung himself back to sit on the couch. A leg restlessly bobbing up and down, he continued. “Or maybe we could just go with fuck buddy.”

“Is that all this is to you, then?” Andy replied, voice laden with frustration and hurt. “Sex? Because, we must have been thinking about two different things when we started out, if so.” He ran a trembling hand through his hair, feeling jittery, nauseous, and there was a pain somewhere in his chest. Letting out a shaky breath, his next words were quiet. “Is that all I am to you? Something to fuck?”

Oz looked away, guilt flashing over his expression. “You aren’t. You never were. This just isn’t something I want to talk about right now, okay?” His tone begged for Andy to drop this, though the Irishman knew it was useless. This was something that had been coming for a while, and he knew he wasn’t going to get out of it this time. And for some reason, that really pissed him off.

“Are you ever going to want to talk about this? Obviously, it needs to be talked about if you keep finding ways to brush it off every time I bring it up!” Andy was yelling now, pacing to try and work off the nervousness that rushed through his veins. He had never been good with confrontation, and the idea that this might lead to them breaking up only made it worse.

Oz’s jawed clenched, and he took a deep breath through gritted teeth. “Fine. Alright. Let’s talk about this.” He finally answered, voice dangerously low. “Let’s talk about how, in about a year, I’m going to have to leave to head back to Dublin. Let’s talk about how we have an expiration date. Please, let’s talk about how I’m going to have to leave you unless I can figure out some way to screw the government over and stay here! Yes, Andy, let’s talk about something that’s just going to lead to bad things!”

Oz realized he was standing, though he couldn’t remember moving from the couch. “Do you think I want to act like I don’t care about you? I love you, damn it! But every time I think about telling you, I remember that I’m not going to be here forever. I’m not a U.S. citizen, and I’m not even eligible to take the damn test unless I have a green card for a few years at best!” Walking closer to Andy, he ignored the wide eyed, tear filled look the other man was giving him. Instead, he dropped to his knees, and wrapped his arms around Andy’s waist, leaning his forehead against his stomach.

“Please... Please don’t ask me to talk about leaving you. Just the idea of it...” Oz trailed off, his voice choked. He felt like he could barely breathe around the lump in his throat, much less speak. “Andy..."

“You...” Stopping, Andy had to clear his throat before he could talk. His words still came out thick. “You love me?”

Oz quietly, shakily laughed. “Of course I do, you idiot.”

Andy stayed silent for a few moments after that, before he stepped back, leaving his lover’s arms. Before he could protest, Andy knelt in front of him and gathered Oz in a tight embrace, burying his face against the Irishman’s shoulder. “...Good.”
