Adrianna sat on Sarah’s couch, wearing borrowed clothes and wringing her hair out with a towel. Now that she was in dry clothes and on her way to getting warm, all she wanted to do was sleep. She judged from the other woman’s expression that her feelings were shared, though they both knew that any sort of rest wouldn’t happen until everything between them was okay.
“If it makes you feel any better, I didn’t like it.” Adrianna blurted. “The, um. Sex. It wasn’t - I didn’t like it.”
It was the first time either of them had spoken in what felt like forever. Sarah’s rather blunt “We need to talk.” had turned the somewhat comfortable atmosphere they had been in to one that was wrought with tension. Now, the silence was broken, and Adrianna wished she could read the look on Sarah’s face. After a long moment of staring at the blonde, she looked away, running her hands through damp hair for a lack of something to do. She was unsurprised to find what could only be called a forest of knots and tangles.
Finally, Sarah spoke. “You have no idea how much better that makes me feel.” She murmured, before a chuckle escaped her. “I... had assumed. And hoped. I know how you don’t like... anything like that, but I’ve met some of Angie’s ex-girlfriends before, so... I wasn’t sure if she’d have the ‘magic touch’ or whatever.”
“You have to like sex to enjoy it, Sarah. No matter who it’s with.” Adrianna softly pointed out, managing a small smile to answer the chuckle. “I also wanted to apologize for what I did. I don’t even know why...”
Sarah held up a hand to stop her, waiting for the other woman to trail off before she spoke again. “Don’t. Angie’s just like that. She’s super fucking charismatic and has a knack for zoning in on people’s weaknesses. That’s how she knew to go for you if she wanted to kick me in the metaphorical nuts. I don’t... I was never mad at you. She just wasn’t around for me to be mad at, so I isolated myself. Whenever I’m really pissed, I always take it out on the person closest to me, whether they deserve it or not, and trust me... Not talking for a while would have hurt less than anything else I might have done.”
Adrianna didn’t really know how to respond to that, so she didn’t. Part of her was so tempted to jump in and ask about Angie, ask for any sort of explanation on both Sarah and her older sister’s behavior, but she held off. If she was ever going to get answers to those questions, it wasn’t going to be at four in the morning. Instead, she went with something more terrifying. “We’re okay, then? We’re... friends again?” She was surprised when Sarah laughed, and found she had really, truly missed that sound.
“Adri, I didn’t know we had ever stopped being friends.” Quieting, Sarah stared at her for a long pause, and Adrianna again wished she could read her expression. “I love you.”
For a moment, Adrianna felt her heart pound, and wished she could tell Sarah the same. “...I know you do.”
