Summary: The others find out about Will’s…indiscretions
Notes: Attempted pocky run amuck (I was really bored and stuck with only a pen and paper…and I’m not kidding). Beware of copious italics. When Bex gets mad, people know it. Minor spoilers for Leigh events.
“How could you keep this from us?”
“Miles, I think the more pertinent question is: How the hell could you have done it at all?” Will, Leigh spent years trying her damndest to kill us, or have you forgotten? She almost succeeded on multiple occasions. She probably almost succeeded after you start sleeping with the bitch!”
“Bex,” Miles said, putting a restraining hand on her arm.
“It wasn’t like that, Bex. It just…happened.”
“That’s no excuse for stupidity and betraying your family!” his sister yelled. “Next you’re going to tell me you got married and were planning kids.” She paused and looked at him in horror. “Don’t you dare tell me there is a kid. Or the gods forbid, more than one!”
“There are no kids,” Will said.
“Thank the gods for small favors,” Bex snarled.
“Why did you never tell us?” Miles asked, looking more hurt than angry.
“For exactly the reasons Bex is using.”
“Then do you have an explanation?”
“No explanation is good enough,” Bex put in. “How long was it?”
“Three years.”
“You slept with her when you were eighteen?” Even Miles sounded dumbfounded now.
“She saved my life and we spent the day talking and…it just happened,” Will said helplessly.
“Did you love her?” Bex demanded.
“I…I guess? In a way. You know how charismatic she was.”
“That does not excuse your…your betrayal! Will, she could have killed one of us after you were sleeping with her. And it would have been your fault.”
“I never would have let it get that far.”
“Bullshit, Will, it was never up to you!”
“How would you have stopped it?” Miles asked more practically.
“Why tell us now, Will?” Maxie asked, speaking up for the first time, as Will seemed unable to answer Miles’s question.
“Because…look, I don’t regret it, but I’m sorry. It was never a weird time and she drew me in. Bex,” he said when his sister still wouldn’t meet his gaze, “I know you’re mad at me-”
“Furious,” she corrected.
“But you have to understand.”
“It was a crime of passion,” Maxie murmured. The other three ignored her, knowing well her preference for any kind of romance.
“How many times have you done senseless things just because you wanted to and it felt right as you were doing it?” Will asked her.
“Gods’ Breath, Will, don’t you dare turn this back on me,” Bex growled but her words lacked the biting edge of before.
“I’m not. I’m just asking you to understand and to not do anything drastic like stop speaking to me.”
“You’d deserve it,” she muttered.
“It’s also water under the bridge and unless he’s confessing to prepare us for something worse,” Maxie said.
“Can it actually get worse?” Bex asked.
“There could have been kids.”
“I hope Will would have been responsible enough to have taken any kids, so we would have known long ago.”
“Gods’ Breath! Stop with the kids talk. I was smarter than that,” Will said.
“As I said, thank the gods for small favors,” Bex said and then sighed. “Fine, Will, I am still furious, but I do understand. Bit bigger than any of my screw-ups, though.”
Will looked between the three, still his closest friends even as adults. Maxie looked surprisingly unconcerned and gave him a reassuring smile as she felt his scrutiny. Miles’s face was screwed up like he had eaten something distasteful, but shrugged. “If something really bad had happened after you knew where to find her, maybe I’d feel differently, but as things played out, it was your choice. A weird one, but ultimately yours.”
“Thanks,” Will said and then all three sets of eyes turned on Bex.
“What?” she asked irritably. “I already said I understand.” As the trio continued to regard her, she let out a breath. “Will, you are still my brother, so this is just more of a pain in the ass than usual, that’s all. Don’t make me admit anything else,” she said and then punched him as hard as she could in the upper arm.
“Ow!” Will yelped. “Okay, I think I deserved that, but still, that hurt!”
She smirked, seemingly satisfied now. “Good,” she said. “C’mon, let’s get back to work.”
