My Treat (Falootin) : 水の泡 mizu no awa : bubbles on the water (all for nothing) - What does Kairn do when it all seems hopeless?
So this probably should have warranted Kairn doing a bit of well deserved but rarely seen angsting about the things that really go wrong for him in life, but I decided to take it as an excuse to inflict the usual dress torture on him.
New minor character here. Aya is
Hakaro's daughter, along with twin,
Rin, and a younger one that has yet to be mentioned. (They all come to the manor a bit after he does along with their mother) I am hoping to work them all in a bit more.
Kairn was hanging upside down, knees hooked over the bottom branch of a tree and tied in place, and the tattered remnants of a lacy pink skirt batting against his face. While not exactly a new predicament, it wasn’t one he could say he was likely to get used to either.
He was just steeling himself for another attempt to swing up towards the branch, trying to convince himself it would work this time, when he caught sight of one of the silver-haired twins coming up the path. Any thoughts of another pathetic escape attempt fled in favor of the urgent need to gather and shove as much of the skirt as he could up around his waist. A shower of petals fell from the daisies that Kinu and his friends had wound into his hair and littered the ground.
“A-Aya!” he called, red from ear to ear and clutching a wad of lace and satin to his groin, as she drew near. “F-fancy meeting you, er, here.”
The girl barely slowed her pace, merely turning her head to set her cold grey eyes on him as she passed.
“I-it’s, uh, not what it looks like?” he said, his blush deepening. “Except, what does it look like? Maybe it’s exactly what it looks like. I-I’m not sure there is a typical assumption to, er, go with a boy in a tree…in a skirt. You know, I don’t usually wear- Oh, forget it.”
She was already several yards down the road when he stopped babbling, no longer even bothering to look back.
“You could at least get someone to help me down, don’t you think?”
Aya didn’t so much as pause. Kairn sighed.
He let go of the skirt and got swatted in the nose with a bit of lace. He shook it off and eyed the branch and the ropes around his legs. They’d done such a shoddy job of it this time, it shouldn’t be too much trouble to get free, if he could just reach-
“Nice undies.”
Kairn jumped and the branch bounced and he got another face full of skirt.
“Reida!” He gathered the skirt back around his waist and did his best to glare at her as she slowly circled him, grinning ear to ear. “Figures you’d show up.”
She stopped in front of him and twisted her head around to look him in the eye. “My, my, whatever did I do to deserve this?” she said.
“You took the words right out of my mouth,” Kairn grumbled. Laughing, Reida plucked a daisy out of his hair. She crumbled it between her fingers and let it fall to the ground. “Have a heart and let me down?”
“Why, they’ve all but gift-wrapped you,” said Reida, ignoring the request and picking another flower from his hair instead. “How thoughtful of them. And I really do like the underwear. Nice touch.” She would; it was pink, ruffly, and at least two or three sizes too small. Cheeks burning, Kairn fumbled for another wad of skirt to shove up around his backside.
“I’m begging you, Reida, just help me down.”
She stopped straining for a peek under the skirt to gape at him. “Oh! Begging now, are we? Could this day get any better?”
Kairn sighed. “You know what?” he said. “You want to look at my ass? Fine. Look at my ass. I’m getting out of this tree.” He let the skirt fall and, to the sound of Reida’s delighted laughter, took another swing up at the branch.
Reida shrugged, crouched down, and started scrawling something in the dirt with a stick.
Kairn stopped his struggling to watch. “What are you doing?”
As if in response to his question, the branch from which he hung gave a loud crack, and Kairn flailed helplessly as it suddenly tipped lower.
Reida smirked at him. “You asked me to get you down.”
“Not like that!”
“Well, you should be more specific.”
“What’s going on here?”
Kairn groaned. “I knew this whole ordeal was missing something,” he grumbled, turning as best he could to find Sethan a few yards up the path, regarding them both quizzically.
“Hey, Sethan, you’ve got to see Kairn’s frilly panties.”
“I’m not sure there is much of them to be seen,” said Sethan.
“Great,” said Kairn, back to shoving the skirt up over his hips. “Now I’ve got both of you staring at my ass. That’s the last thing I need.”
“I’m pretty sure the last thing you need right now is actually for Kinu to come back,” said Sethan, “but whatever. Do you want to get down?”
“No,” said Kairn. Arms tightly clamped to his sides to keep the skirt in place, he was swinging back and forth now. “I quite like it here. Very comfortable. Yes, I’d like to get down! What sort of stupid question-”
“Well, I was trying to get you down,” Reida snapped. “It’s not my fault you’re such a baby that you’re scared of a little fall.”
“Let me see what I can do.” Sethan stepped forward to make a slow circle around Kairn, quietly appraising the tangle of ropes that held his knees to the branch a few feet over his head.
“W-well…?” said Kairn, as Sethan made a third pass around him without so much as a word.
“Well, I can’t reach it from here, but I think I could-”
He was interrupted by the loud pop of a spell, followed by a resounding crunch from the branch. It gave way this time, sending Kairn plummeting towards the earth, legs still bound and skirts flapping all about. Sethan was scrambling to catch him, or perhaps he was trying to get out of the way, Kairn was too busy trying to avoid getting clobbered by the branch to bother figuring it out.
Whatever his intent, a moment later Sethan was sprawled on the ground under a sputtering and flailing Kairn and a pile of pink satin and lace. Somehow the branch managed not to do any serious damage and was now tangled up in both their legs.
Glowering at Reida, Kairn set to tearing frantically at the ropes. “The hell did you do that for?”
“You’re down now,” said Reida.
Grumbling a string of curses as the knots slid free between his fingers, he turned to Sethan. “Aren’t you going to say something?”
Sethan cocked a brow. “You are down now.”
The last knot came undone and Kairn hurled the branch violently aside. “What are you grinning at?” he snapped at Reida.
“Your frilly pink ass all curled up in Sethan’s lap.”
He hadn’t given it much thought until then. He looked around and found the two of them tangled in the pool of pink satin ruffles and lace, Sethan’s knees folded on either side of him and both their feet jutting out at odd angles, and swore again.
Of course, that was when Kinu and his friends decided to come check on their favorite prey.
Kairn scrambled to get his feet under him as the older boys crested the hill to the east, pointing and laughing loudly. He only succeeded in tripping over the ropes that still lay about him and tumbling back into Sethan, much to their amusement.
“You know,” said Kairn, carefully pushing himself off of his friend. “Sometimes I think somewhere even the gods must be having a good laugh at me. You know what I mean?”
Sethan gave the ruffle-clad body heaped on top of his a look, and he shook his head and laughed. “You have no idea,” he said.
