Reagan pulled her robe tighter around her body as she stepped out onto the porch where her sister was waiting, all dressed despite the late hour.

“I knew you would come over one last time despite everything. Despite all the messages I sent you not to come,” she greeted Kennedy who was sitting on one of the stairs, back still to her.

Reagan walked over to her sister and sat down next to her. “You should be gone already.”

“I wanted to check on you, make sure you were okay and not so very mad at me for dragging Leo with me. I thought the two of you were in the process of working things out and now I’m ruining everything.”

“Oh, Kenny.” Reagan leaned her head on her sister’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about that. We weren’t going anywhere, not right now with everything else falling to pieces. Don’t tell him if you don’t really have to. I feel bad about it, not being able to throw myself into this the way he does.”

“He thought about leaving for you.”

“I know. He told me but he’s a good man and he promised me that he would stay with you and look out for you. I don’t want you on the run all by yourself.”

“Thanks.”

“Anytime. You would have done the same thing. When it comes to loyalty, we come too much after them.”
She didn’t have to say their names, didn’t have to say “mom and dad” for Kennedy to understand.

“Do they know that Cerberus is after me?” Kennedy paused and took a deep breath. “Do they know about the most recent developments? About what happened at Cerberus?”

“They know Cerberus put you on their most wanted list,” Reagan confessed. “But I went to see them three days ago, as soon as it became apparent that you would have to leave. I told the the whole truth.”

“Did they believe you?”

Reagan nodded. She knew what Kennedy was afraid of. She had been with Nachzehrer for two years now and her relationship with their parents had suffered greatly from her switching affiliations but Reagan also understood why Kennedy had done it. She herself had considered it for a fairly long time before deciding to stay put in case things blew up.

Things were more than blowing up right now with Cerberus having been infiltrated to such a degree and had wanted to quit, not have anything to do with them if they were doing it all wrong. Only the news that Kennedy was on their most wanted list, that she was being treated like a terrorist had convinced Reagan to stay, to make sure that this regime was depowered. That would be her job in addition to clearing her sister’s name.

“They see things clearer now. They told me to send their love.”

“So they are no longer wondering why I couldn’t be more like them?” Kennedy asked harshly.

“I don’t think they ever did. The way they looked at each other made me think they were wondering why you had to be so much like them.”

“I wish I could go see them and explain myself.”

“You can’t.”

“I know.”

Reagan reached out and took her sister’s hand. “I will make sure that you can come back as soon as possible and tell them everything yourself.”

“If anything happens, you know how to reach me, don’t you?”

Reagan nodded. “But I don’t want you coming back here until everything is clear. You and Leo stay away until you talk to me and I tell you to come back. Not anytime sooner. And don’t you dare come back if I don’t use all the codes we established.”

“I’ll be safe, I promise. I’ve always been,” Kennedy assured her.

“Oh yeah, because getting on a list of potential terrorists is the epitome of a safe lifestyle.” She was almost crying now. she was genuinely scared for Kennedy and she wished things were different.

“You know, maybe I might take advantage of my status as a terrorist, find more agents they’ve turned their backs on and lead some major scale attacks against those fucking traitors at Cerberus.”

“Don’t,” Reagan whispered. “Stay out of trouble. Look after Leo for me.”

She embraced her sister tightly and tried to ignore the tears that were streaming down her cheeks now. When Kennedy released her and sauntered down the path that led to the house, finally disappearing in the poorly lit street, Reagan wiped the tears away. Things would be very different from now on.

From now on, her goal would be destroying Cerberus from the inside just like her parents had once helped destroy Nachzehrer from the outside.
