Summary: Ivy has no need for princes.
Notes: This story is for Miyabi, without whom it would never have happened. The tape referenced is The Practical Princess.

When Ivy was six years old, she fell in love for the first time.

The object of her young affection was a beautiful golden-haired princess, with a lovely face, graceful manners, and the ability to not only think clearly and rescue herself, but to blow up evil dragons while she was at it.

Explosions were one of the better ways to Ivy's heart.

She watched the tape (originally Aaron's, gladly handed down) until it wore out, cheering for the princess every time. She always stopped it before the princess married the prince, though.

She always thought the princess deserved better.

--

Princes irritated Ivy.

It wasn't because she was gay. It was because... well. Princes were just so boring, and arrogant to boot. They rode in at the end of the tale, convinced they had all the answers, never stopping to think that just maybe the princess didn't want a prince around. Maybe the princess was happy living with the dwarves. Maybe she'd rather he married her stepsister. Maybe she'd rather go on sleeping forever than have to marry a stranger, who liked to kiss sleeping girls.

Princesses could handle things on their own, Ivy felt. Princes only complicated the issue.

--

When Ivy was twenty-one years old, she fell in love for the last time.

Her princess was beautiful and golden-haired, lovely and graceful, and if she didn't blow up dragons, she could most definitely take care of herself. She didn't need a prince.

She didn't need a princess, either, but she wanted one-- a princess with red hair and blue eyes, who loved explosions and animals, who never thought before she acted. Someone who loved her.

So the princesses lived happily ever after, and no prince came riding in to save them. They didn't need a prince.

Just each other.
