Pumpkin Pie #3. Potion with Butterscotch and Sprinkles
Story : knights & necromancers
Rating : PG
Timeframe : 11-something (Berwyk's youth)
Word Count : 218

The last 2 days have been pretty crazy, and I couldn't come up with anything particularly profound, so I settled for cheap joke instead.

“It should be darker than that,” said Roul, lips twisting as he peered at the pitcher of ruddy sludge between them. “Redder. Are you sure those berries are ripe?”

“Quite,” said Berwyk. “What’s next?”

“Ice. Crushed.”

“Well, that’s easy enough.” And with a few quick forms, he had turned a bowl of water into a mass of shimmering shards.

“And a pinch of cinnamon,” Roul added, as Berwyk upended the bowl into the pitcher.

The uneven clatter and plop of bits of ice falling into the concoction ceased as Berwyk paused to shoot his friend a look. “Really?” The only answer he got was the sharp raising of one thin, blonde brow. Berwyk sighed and dumped the remainder of the ice into the pitcher. “ You know, I thought the ingredients would be something more, I don’t know… mystical? I mean, what sort of elixir of life has rum in it, for gods’ sakes?”

Roul laughed. “Who said we were making the elixir?”

Cinnamon in hand, he stopped again. “I thought-”

“Ah, ah!” Roul snatched the powder from his grasp and tossed a pinch into the pitcher with a flourish. “I never said I knew the recipe. I did, however spend a few lifetimes tending bars.”

“So this is…?”

“Tasty,” said Roul, as he poured the first glass.
