This and the next piece go around the

Reida snickered as Kairn set his lunch tray gently down on the table with the egg in its styrofoam cup cradle balanced alongside his pizza and milk.
“How is my little bundle of joy?” she cooed.
“Fine,” said Kairn, jerking the tray away from her as she reached out to pat it. “Thanks to me. You know, we’re supposed to take turns with this thing.”
“You want me to take it? Here.” She yanked open the zipper to the front pouch of her bag and, holding back the wave of pens and pencils that threatened to spill from it, beckoned for him to give her the egg.
“No!” said Kairn. “The point is not to crush it, see?”
Another tray clattered down across from them and Sethan threw one long leg over the bench. “What’s with you two?”
Reida folded her arms and threw her nose in the air. “Kairn doesn’t seem to think much of my parenting skills.”
“You were about to stuff a raw egg that hasn’t seen a fridge in days into your backpack. It’s got nothing to do with parenting; it’s got to do with having a shred of sense.”
“Ah, well,” said Sethan, settling into his seat. He wrinkled his nose at his pizza and, laying plastic fork and knife to its surface as if they were delicate surgical implements, extracted a sliver of mushroom from the cheese. “They say children put a lot of stress on a marriage, don’t they.”
Kairn glowered at him. “You’re not going to like where I do stick this egg when this whole thing is over.”
Sethan ignored him as he repeated his meticulous removal of pizza toppings a second time and a third.
“You are going to eat that… when you’re done, right?” said Kairn.
Sethan ignored him, continuing to pile bits of suspect vegetables on his tray. Kairn lifted his own slice, shrugged, and took a bite.
Reida was still eyeing the egg as she laid waste to her own pizza. “You know,” she said, around a mouthful, “I think I’ve got a deal you might like.”
“Oh?” said Kairn.
“You keep the egg. Then you don’t have to worry about my lack of sense.”
“That’s a deal?”
Reida sniffed. “It ought to be enough, but I’m getting to the rest. You take care of Junior here, and I’ll take care of your little dodge ball problem.”
“I’m listening.”
