This is another pair of pieces, There will be more to Friday night, but I'm not sure exactly how it goes yet.
Sethan went straight to Kairn’s room, drawing board and both their bags in tow, leaving Kairn to brave Shasa’s slumber party if they were to have anything to eat. They were clustered around the kitchen table, their attentions set on a basket overflowing with little vials of brightly colored nail polish and a platter of chips and dip, half a dozen fourteen-year-old girls and…“Reida?”
Reida grinned at him over the lone bottle of black, which she was meticulously applying to her own nails.
“What?” said Shasa, dramatically planting both her hands on her hips. “I can have older friends.”
Kairn shook his head as he snatched a chip from the platter and gave it a dunk. “Shas, making friends with Reida is not going to get you any closer to Sethan.”
Reida leaned in towards his sister with a sugary smile. “Don’t listen to your brother, he just wants to keep Seth to himself.”
Kairn glared at her as he helped himself to another chip. “And what do you want?”
“Oh, lots of things,” she said, spreading her fingers to examine her nails as she dunked her brush in the polish. “But for tonight, I’m sleeping at your house, aren’t I?”
“Don’t get used to it.”
“Those are ours, you know,” Shasa snapped, as he reached for a third.
“So where do I get my own? I’ve got a guest to feed too.”
Reida sniffed. “Your guest practically lives here.”
The look Shasa gave him was a bit softer. “Sethan’s staying over?”
“Yeah,” said Kairn. “His mom doesn’t get back until tomorrow.”
“We’re going to watch movies later,” one of the girls said. “You should come join us.” That got her mixed looks from the rest.
“You should,” said Shasa.
“Nah.” Kairn shook his head and shoved a hand through his hair. “We’re just going to play some games or something. And I think he wanted to work on some drawings.”
“Will he be needing models?” Reida shot him a smirk.
“Yeah, I don’t think the teachers would approve of the sort of pics you’d want to pose for. Chips?” he asked Shasa.
“In the cabinet.” Shasa nodded at the doors behind him. “If you change your mind…”
“I’ll let you know. Night, Shas. Night, everyone.”
He slipped out of the kitchen to a chorus of “goodnight”s.
“Don’t you go locking your door tonight,” Reida called.
Kairn gave her the finger as he turned and stalked down the hall, and the whole crowd of girls snickered.
