Notes: The malt is attached to the Butter Pecan prompt. The new year for the Watwanyasi falls when spring is firmly established, as they believe celebrating it too early (when winter weather could return) is bad luck.
In the spring the barren plains of the east erupted in color: the creamy queen's lace, the crimson fire-weeds, the yellow, orange and blue poppies endemic to the Brushback, and more. When the ground could no longer be seen through the vivid patchwork, the children of the Watwanyasi were given the honor of collecting the most fragrant and most beautiful specimens. And when all the villages came together - some traveling in a great migration for weeks - on the promontory overlooking the uncharted east sea, it was the children who threw the flowers to the winds for new-year luck.

Ravir stuck his upper body into the massive earthenware pot, gathering a bunch of rose petals in both hands. The heady scent of the flowers all around him made him slightly dizzy as he withdrew and walked as steadily as he could to the cliffside. Several petals escaped and fluttered to the ground before he reached the other children.
He could feel his parents watching as he thrust his hands up towards the sky and sea and let go. The petals fell, then were caught by the wind. They swirled about with the other flowers, driven to the rising sun.
