Notes: LJ's ~undead~ layout has inspired to write something for Halloween! This scene amuses me way too much; I'm still giggling over the first line. Fun stuff with the parent generation :D

Christine is weaving green, glittery ribbons into her hair when some kind of huge, fuzzy cat-thing bursts into her room with a boombox on its shoulder and starts shaking its ass to "Night Fever."

Christine is weaving green, glittery ribbons into her hair when some kind of huge, fuzzy cat-thing bursts into her room with a boombox on its shoulder and starts shaking its ass to "Night Fever."

Predictably, Christine screams, and knocks about five or six little bottles off her vanity table.

"I LOVE HALLOWEEN!" the thing proclaims.

Christine's jaw drops. "Melody?! What...what the heck are you wearing?"

Melody's laugh is muffled by the large polyester and wire head. "Someone's mascot costume, I think. GOOOOO BOBCATS!"

Christine just stares at the costume's bizarre cartoon eyes, then shakes her head. "That's completely disturbing. It doesn't even look like a bobcat."

"I know, isn't it great?" The Melody-Bobcat sets down the boombox and starts doing disco moves. "GIMME THAT NIGHT FEVER, NIGHT FEVEEEER! WE KNOW HOW TO SHOW IT!" Then she pauses to ask, "Hey, what are you supposed to be? A fairy?"

Christine frowns, standing up in front of the mirror. She points to her long green skirt, ruched down the front and splitting into two meshy flaps at the bottom. "I'm a mermaid." She turns sideways, adjusting her bikini top. "I wish I had a little more up top."

Melody plops down on the bed and takes off the head of her costume. Her hair is messy, plastered against her forehead. "You look great, Christine. Don't worry about it."

There's a knock on the door and Christine crosses her arms self consciously. "Yeah?"

"Is Mel in there?" Jake's voice calls.

Melody quickly slips the costume's head back on and dances her way to the door to open it.

"Tadaaaah!" She proclaims.

Jake looks incredulous, looking from Bobcat-Melody to Christine, and then back again. "Mel? Is that you under there?"

Melody laughs. "I told you my costume was SEXY!"

Jake reaches out to grab hold of her tail--which doesn't look much like a bobcat tail, Christine observes. "Where did you even get this??"

"Hey, be careful--it's a rental! You break it, you buy it, buddy." She reaches out her paws for Jake. "Now c'mon, let's dance!"

"What are you supposed to be, Jake?" Christine asks. He's wearing a long black cloak over his jeans.

"Oh. I'm the Reaper." He pulls a mask out of his pocket and covers his face with it. Melody keeps boogieing. "Hey, do you need a ride to your party, Chris?"

"Mom said she'd take me."

"And she's going to let you out of the house...dressed like that?"

Christine tugs at her top again. "Um...I didn't think of that."

"We'll take you," Jake says, "A girl should be allowed to be a slutty dolphin once a year."

"I'm not a slutty dolphin!" Christine protests. "I'm a mermaid!"

"RAWRRRRR," says Melody.

:D :D :D I HOPE SOMEONE SHARES MY WEIRD SENSE OF HUMOR. I think I drank too much coffee.

So when I first started writing Melody I thought she was very similar to Dee, but I'm glad she keeps surprising me...I don't think Dee would go out and rent a costume like this. Melody is nuts and IL her. And in other news...how do you spell the -ing form of boogie? :/
