Notes: Why Tally Harlow can't grow up. (Melodrama is kind of her gimmick. She's okay with that.)
“No, seriously,” Tally said woefully, “I’m going to be fifteen forever.”
Rosa gave her a look. “Tal, when I came in, you were laying on the hardwood floor, breathing like a crazy person and refusing to eat out of spite. You’re not helping your case.”
“Not in public,” Tally insisted, because that was so different.
“In public,” Rosa said, turning to put the pot on the stove on the back burner to simmer. “You make up words and don’t cuss and tell embarrassing stories, and mention your retainer.”
“My target demographic loves that,” Tally said, tugging at her own hair in distress.
“That’s my personality, you mean.” Rosa said, voice mocking her fondly. “And that’s great. Look where it’s got you.”
Tally flopped forward, bringing her head to the granite of the island, somewhat forcefully in her agitation, but not hard enough to bruise. She was suddenly reminded of the reason she was in so much distress. “If I take my dream job, I’m screwing over Miles.”
"And if you don't?" Rosa prodded.
"Fifteen! Forever!"
"Ah. How could I have forgotten."
