Title: Raining In New York
Main Story: In the Heart
Flavors, Toppings, Extras: Chocolate chip mint 6 (lazy), fudge ripple 12 (temptation), FOTD (land of Nod: a mythical land of sleep), rainbow sprinkles.
Word Count: 400
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Rainy Saturday mornings are detrimental to getting up.
Notes: More pointless fluff with Nathan and Gail. I like rain with these two for some reason.

Rain pattering against the window, Gail sleeping beside him, the cat a warm, purring lump on his feet; today, Nathan Kendall decided, was not a day for getting out of bed.

So of course the alarm clock started beeping right about then.

Gail slapped out at it semi-consciously, missed, and turned over, grumbling. Nathan, who was used to this, reached over her and hit the sleep button, then tucked his arm around her waist and pulled her back against him. "Go back to sleep, love, it's Saturday. And raining."

She mumbled something inaudible, and said, "No, no, gotta go to work, stupid fucking budget meetings running overtime."

He brushed her hair off the back of her neck with his free hand and kissed her there. "You have minions. Make them take notes."

Gail snuggled back against him for a moment, then groaned. "Nooo, no, no, I have to go." She twisted around to give him a quick kiss, then pulled out of his embrace. "My minions do not love me enough for that."

"Like Jake wouldn't lie down on broken glass for you," Nathan said, propping his head up on his hand.

"Therein lies the trouble," Gail replied, shuffling into her slippers. "I love Jake too much for that."

He rolled over, displacing the cat and earning an angry yowl, and crossed his hands behind his head. "If you insist on going out into the cold rain at too early on a Saturday, I won't stop you."

Gail made a rude noise, and went out of their bedroom, probably to the kitchen to make herself coffee.

Nathan sighed. He hated budget season almost as much as Gail did, mostly because it kept his wife away for longer and longer hours until she managed to bully everyone into agreeing. She wouldn't be back until long after nightfall-- might as well go back to sleep.

The cat curled up on his feet again, and he was just on the edge of sleep when the bed sagged and Gail draped herself across his chest.

Nathan grinned. "Change your mind?" he asked the top of her head.

"The nice thing about being the boss," Gail said, into his neck, "is that you can call in sick, and no one asks if it's a cold or sick-of-budget. Now shut up, I'm going back to sleep."

"Yes ma'am," he said, and wrapped his arms around her.
