She stands over the crib and thinks about it.
It would be easy. Some things are so delicate; they lie wrong and something snaps, or something stops. She could play the grieving mother very well. She cries beautifully.
She watches the toddler stumble and thinks about it.
Children do stupid things. Run into streets without looking. Open gates they shouldn’t. She might not have to do a thing.
But there's a risk. She is conscious of nothing so much as risks.
She leaves the pillow alone. Shouts from the doorway. Doesn't do it.
But she could.
