Author: Marina
Story: Shifts universe (pre-Tremors)
Challenge: Chocolate 6 (grace), Pistachio 28 (waiting), Peanut Butter 3 (wind/air)
Toppings: Rainbow Sprinkles (Isabelle), Butterscotch (this happens many years before most of the Shifts characters are born or even thought of), Cherry (I have beaten passive voice out of this piece with a stick, and it did not go easily)
Word Count: 259
Rating: G
Summary: Isabelle uses her abilities for something not quite good, but not evil, either.
Notes: First Peanut Butter response-I want to use this flavor to write backstory snippets/snapshots/short bits for each of the influential Tremors characters because four of them have elemental-based abilities and a few more have roles that lend themselves to the other four prompts. First up is Isabelle.

She watched from the trees as Michael entered the coffee shop, spoke briefly with the waiter, and sat down at a table for two near the window. He looked around pensively, his expression slightly nervous. She exhaled. Perfect, she thought. The front door set off an annoying chime whenever it opened-he would hear it and look up when she entered.

Isabelle felt a bit guilty for going against her parents’ one rule: “We do not use magic in public.” She had adhered to it rigidly even after moving out for college, as she felt that subtlety was wise. However, they had not made her promise this, and as an adult, she could make her own decisions. She barely knew Michael, but she wanted to make a memorable impression on their first date.

Closing her eyes, she mentally turned off her invisibility and stepped out onto the walk, carrying her head high. As she opened the door, she deftly snapped her fingers, and a light burst of air coursed upward into her hair, giving it just enough lift to look natural-as though a gentle breeze tugged at the ends. The chime sounded, and she glanced in Michael’s direction. She had to fight hard to suppress her smile at seeing his eyes widen.

“Good afternoon, miss,” the waiter said, reaching for a menu. “Table for one?”

Isabelle shook her head, looking back at Michael once more. He had not taken his eyes off her. “I’m meeting someone,” she said. “The gentleman at the window table.”

“Of course. Right this way, please.”
