Summary: Why Eleazar was homeschooled for many years.
Notes: Does what it says on the tin. Follow-up coming later. (Edited for noooooo why did I lapse into past tense whyyyyyy)
He hadn’t meant to set the bathroom on fire. Ori had wanted the candles lit, and there had been no matches. It was supposed to be simple.
Eleazar can still hear his father’s disappointed voice, hours later. “I’m relieved you two weren’t hurt, and it’s good that you were able to get the fire under control, but that doesn’t change the fact that we told you not to play with fire unsupervised, ever. If you disobey us at home, how can we trust you to obey us at school?”
He knows that no amount of pleading on his part will get his parents to change their minds. They go through this every year. When September comes, their driver will take Oriana back to school, and Eleazar will once again stay behind, stewing in his jealousy. He begins to think it will always be this way, that no amount of practice will change things.
They don’t understand, he thinks, furiously, wiping the tears out of his eyes. It’s their fault I get frustrated. I could control it if they would let me go. It’s not fair.
