Summary: Why Joy didn’t finish college.
Notes: Probably the only Peanut Butter that won’t have a literal interpretation of the prompt in the same way that the others do.
There are many things she could say. We were working on a class project. It wasn’t a date. He’s barely a friend. She doesn’t say them, because he won’t listen.
“I should have known this would happen,” her father says, after a long, relentless silence. “You will drop out immediately and come home by the end of the week, do you understand me?”
“Yes, sir.” It’s the only thing she can say or do now.
She hopes he can’t hear how hard she’s crying. That will only make it worse.
