Summary: She'll be strong for Michael.
Notes: I need to do more with Danny and Michael. I kind of love their relationship. Second part of summer challenge for today.
She sits in the dark, legs held tight against her chest, and stares at the wall.
The closet smells like mold. It's because her father doesn't-- didn't-- ever scrape his shoes before he throws them in here, and the floor is dirty. Not that Danny cares; there's nowhere else to sit in here and she doesn't have to do the laundry. Coats brush the top of her head. She can stretch out an arm in any direction and touch the wall. But she's okay with that. At least it's sort of warm in here.
Her mother turned off the light before she shut the door, and Danny knows she'll be in here all night. No dinner, either, and probably no breakfast unless Michael manages to slip her something. He'll try, she knows he will, it just depends on whether or not he gets caught.
Oh, Michael. If it weren't for her brother, Danny knows she'd have broken by now.
The worst part is she doesn't even know what would satisfy her mother. She tried behaving once, just to see what would happen, and she swears her mother made up reasons to put her in the closet. If Danny knew what she wanted... but she doesn't, and she thinks her mother doesn't know either.
Not like it matters. Danny knew by the age of six that she wasn't staying here. She knew by the age of seven that she wasn't leaving Michael here either. They stick together, her and Michael, and they'll get out, she knows it.
The door swings open, and her mother glares down at her, Michael hovering apologetic and big-eyed behind her. "Daniella! Are you ready to apologize?"
Not a chance in hell. Danny doesn't say anything; she just makes a rude noise.
Her mother huffs, and says, "Well, you can just stay in there all night, then! See how you like it." Just like she was ever going to let Danny out at all. She slams the door again, and the lock clicks shut, but not before Danny manages to wink at Michael, and not before she sees his expression-- sympathetic, and a little scared, but proud of her.
Right. Fuck her mom, anyway.
She won't break.
