While Chloe Grant, or Cherry Cherry Boom Boom as she’s known in the music business isn’t a new sensation to anyone that follows the local music scene in New York City, her debut album ‘Back to June’ seems to have taken the country by storm, and completely by surprise. Critics are calling her the next revolutionary in music, while Andrew M. Cardello from Rolling Stone magazine has even gone as far as predicting that she’ll turn the music business upside down in a way that her number one inspiration, Lady Gaga, could have only hoped to do.

Cherry Cherry Boom Boom, who lovingly calls her fans her 'cherry bombs', has listed nothing but surprising artists in her lists of inspirations. While it isn’t surprising to see artists list singers from our parents’ generation such as Lady Gaga and Ke$ha as muses to their work, Cherry goes as far back as what our great-grandparents listened to. Judy Garland, Elvis, The Beatles, and Patti Page are all names that most teenagers today wouldn’t recognize unless they were raised with them, along with some of her other inspirations such as Madonna, Debbie Harry, and unfortunately, Michael Jackson.

Cherry also lists artists such as Joan Jett, Annie Lennox, and the Gorillas as influences on her work. However, nothing is more obvious than her inspiration taken from Lady Gaga. “Gaga is my good luck charm. Her songs are the only thing on my iPod while I’m working.” Cherry has said. Her wardrobe is reminiscent of Gaga’s outfits, and her stage name even comes from one of Lady Gaga’s producers and songwriters, Martin Kierszenbaum. Kirszenbaum used ‘Cherry Cherry Boom Boom’ as a pseudonym while working with Gaga, who name dropped him in songs such as ‘Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say’ and ‘Starstruck’ from her debut album ‘The Fame’.

Before she was known as Cherry, Chloe Grant was an eccentric and creative nineteen year old with a killer set of pipes and a family that held her up instead of holding her down. “I wouldn’t be anywhere without my family.”, she’s been quoted as saying. “My daddies were the first to help me channel my creativity, and my aunts did as much as they could to help me on my ventures.” In fact, it was one of her aunts, Rayne Wyman, the owner of the infamous gay club ‘Splash’, that first helped her get into show business. Grant would take the stage after the drag shows, an amazing encore to the lip syncing kings and queens that came before her, and eventually had to move her show to a different night to keep from completely stealing the other performers’ spotlights.

Eventually, these shows led to her recording demos and EPs, while bringing her show to clubs all over Manhattan. It was barely three and a half years later that Grant, now using her stage name, was discovered by Mark Nolan, a producer and music executive of Antigone Records, who immediately snatched her up and signed her with a record deal. Now, her first single ‘Scandal’ is constantly played on the airwaves, and is climbing the chart faster than anyone can follow. It sold 450,000 copies in its first week of release, leading fans to purchase ‘Back to June’ an astonishing 700,000 times the weekend it was released.

While Cherry hasn’t said if she’s began work on her next album just yet, she has said that she’s currently working on a tour to promote ‘Back to June’ that will have shows all across the US and Canada. If her current record sales and chart performances are any hint, it shouldn’t be surprising when tickets start selling out before you can say Cherry’s stage name in full. It hasn’t been said when the tour will start, but the news will surely be spread far and wide when the information is released. Needless to say, Cherry Cherry Boom Boom is, hands down, a breath of fresh air that the world was desperately in need of. Hopefully, it’s ready for her.
